Statement solid brass belt buckle with amazing detail representing the strength and dignity of a great Native American Chief. “Pontiac” stamped on back identifying as Ottawa War Chief Pontiac (Obwaandi’eyaag in his native tongue). He occupied in the Great Lake Regions of America and known historically for his shrewd actions to stop the British Invasion. He sent word to all surrounding Tribal Leaders to attack their nearest Fort, while he and his Tribe descended on Detroit. At one point, the Native’s controlled nine of the eleven British Forts in the Ohio Valley. The war lasted from 1763-66, with Chief Pontiac singing a Peace Treaty with British Superintendent of Indian Affairs Sir William Johnson. The British focus on Chief Pontiac for their diplomatic efforts along with the attention he received led to suspicion and resentment from other Tribal Leaders, and he began to be ostracized. He retreated to Illinois County where he is said to have exerted his greatest influence transitioning from a local war leader into an important regional spokesman. In 1769 at the age of 49, he was assassinated by a Peoria warrior. Buried in St Louis, a plaque marks his final resting place but for the most part goes unnoticed as it is attached to the side of Stadium East parking garage. “Battle of Bloody Run” was his warrior achievement, although unable to secure the fort was effective in holding the British at bay. But his later role of spokesman and his message for Tribes to unify in battle, heard in councils and negotiations is what allowed his legacy to continue. In his famous speech “The Master of Life” Chief Pontiac with his commanding personality and strategic mind rallies Tribes to continue to band together and remember their lives before the white man came bearing gifts. Quoted to say, “Before those whom you call your brothers come on your lands, did you not live by the bow and arrow? You had no need of gun nor powder…”. This belt buckle, so stylish will up my fashion game this Summer. I wish to extend a Thank You “Wiigwech” to Shop Posher @azmusketeer for a fair trade, excellent customer service and quick ship. Lots of items all priced reasonably, I am sure all could find a Treasured Item to add to their wardrobe or home as well. I can attest to quality and courteous transaction and will definitely give a Follow for my future finds. Let us take a lesson in History and Harmony from Chief Pontiac a great Midwest (from where I hail) Leader and strive to Live for the Betterment of our Brothers!
