Happily, 99% of my customers & interactions on PM have been positive. However, after a questionable claim (where we both got money), I decided to protect my merchandise & reputation more thoroughly. The only real way to do this is to video the merchandise condition, including working zippers, buttons, no marks, etc, packing the item, showing the shipping label & using security tags.It protects me & the buyer in case something breaks in transit for a USPS claim as well as limits false claims.

this is such an important read! thank you for posting

@allegra_garcia thank you so much for the comment and support! I was hesitant to post it because I didn’t want my regular, awesome customers to think I was talking about them...but I think it’s important for the community to help each other out. I’ve noticed more people talking about issues lately and it just felt right to stand up for all the honest closets out there.

@cottontalefarm I had several people try to scam me and I almost fell for it, so I appreciate this.

@pineappleeffect thank you!!

L♥️VE this post. Do you mind if I borrow the first picture to post on my page? I have always taken pictures of any sale I made. On one high ticket sale the buyer made a claim against me saying the shoes were damaged and "a bad knock off"! Because of the detailed pictures I took and proof that they were authentic and shipped undamaged, I won the claim! I never thought of recoding the boxing process, but now I will. That post is a game changer
cottontalefarm
@loamarie309 please use it! I’d love it if you would either leave my username at the bottom or credit the picture somehow. I was really hesitant to post it, but I’m tired of these losers taking advantage of the system. I had someone get free merchandise when they claimed that there were “tiny chips that couldn’t be photographed”. I’ve shipped over 70 breakable items with no incidents but they still got it for free.

@cottontalefarm I will post it in its entirety. I take great pride in the authenticity & condition of the items I list. I was heartbroken when a buyer posted pictures of the Louboutin shoe I sent her claiming it was destroyed, as well as a bad knock off! Thankfully I took pictures of the shoe with her shipping label & provided proof of authenticity. She insulted me in every post of the claim! I think she wanted to return them and lied! It’s unbelievable how ruthless some people are! Thank you
cottontalefarm
@loamarie309 unbelievable! She could have just been honest & say they didn’t fit. Then ask you if it was ok to copy your text so she could sell them & make her money back.I had someone accept a package, give me a five star rating then claim they didn’t get it.PM refunded their money, paid me, then took away the five star review & didn’t count it as an official sale.I guess they accept a certain level of fraud in their business model.BTW, you have a great closet!Quality merchandise & photos!

@cottontalefarm YOU are a great representative for Poshmark! I am so happy I found you and your closet. You deserve every accolade for your helping others and beautiful closet as well. Thank you for this post. You’re helping so many people. Thank you for your kind words. The feeling is mutual.

wow, I'm glad you came to my page. haven't had any of this happen to me but will head your warnings. Will definitely do the same, thanks for sharing.😊
alenanyc
Wow, this is such great advice. I would not have thought to video the item or packing process. Thank you so much for sharing!!
cottontalefarm
@alenanyc thanks! It definitely makes the process a little longer, but it’s worth the peace of mind. Even with just posting the warning I have a lot less scammers asking for off-site transactions or trades.

For someone new this is valuable information thank you for posting. I would also like to connect with you I have inherited some silver and don't know how to value it was looking for advice please.
cottontalefarm
@rowanvamp0 hi there! I’m happy to help. I just saw you were in NC! I lived in Jacksonville for a few years as a kid, my dad is a career Marine. I can pass along some silver websites here, or send me you email address and I can email you links. Whatever you prefer!
rowanvamp0
@cottontalefarm Oh what a small world! Yes USMC Daughter and wife! Should I create a bundle so I can talk to you privately so my email isn't public
cottontalefarm
@rowanvamp0 that’s a better idea!

Do you find Poshmark takes your side after showing the recordings? I’ve had a few cases in the last year (never had any the other 6!!) and some were very suspicious or downright false, but it seems posh usually takes the buyer’s side
cottontalefarm
@mermaidsongs yes, I think they are helpful. After shipping over 300 breakable pieces I had one break recently. The buyer originally said I didn’t pack the box well enough.I was able to show the video of the packing (several layers bubble wrap & paper & tape, double boxed, air pockets etc) & I asked PM to help me file a claim with USPS. I think they don’t want to deal with the hassle of a claim so they gave us both our money. It’s a pain on my end, but that was a $110 piece so it was worth it.
cottontalefarm
@mermaidsongs I also have less trolls asking for deals off Poshmark. There still be jerks, I had a lady buy a 60 year old vintage piece & complain there was some rust inside...mind you, it still worked. Instead of asking for a refund, she gave me 1 star!I can deal with the occassional four star rating, but one!! And I couldn’t defend myself with my video showing it worked because she didn’t dispute the sale. It took me months to get my rating from a 4.9 back up to 5.0.
cottontalefarm
@mermaidsongs 409 sales, I’ve had a few lost packages, 1 “broken” claim I proved was a lie, 1 claim that I proved I packed properly, 1 1 star claim that I couldn’t do anything about AND I received my commissions on all of them.I also had 1 return that I proved was a lie & after complaining I got a PM credit & my merch. I’ve also used a video to help a customer file a USPS complaint. For me it’s been worth the effort, at the very least take a few photos. Evidence & documentation is your friend.
mermaidsongs
Thank you for responding! I definitely think I will consider it now. I’m not selling breakable items (mostly), but I feel like without proof, posh will always take the side of the buyer. This was not the case when I first started in 2013
cottontalefarm
@mermaidsongs I’m sorry it took me so long! Your comment got lost in my feed. I’d say if it has a working part (zipper, button etc) video that functioning, or if it’s really expensive, otherwise you’re probably fine snapping a few pics-inside packaging, label, fragile sticker). Always do it if your buyer seems fishy (haggling a lot, just joined, weird screen name). I hope this helps! Good luck! 2013? I feel like I should be asking you for advice!
cottontalefarm
@mermaidsongs starting with how did you get so many followers?? I’m struggling with that, or do you think it even matters?
mermaidsongs
Posh has changed a lot since I started, I used to sell at asking price immediately. There was no offer button or bundle option, I had to manually make bundles. I also sold cheaper clothing then, and trends have changed. Especially with the pandemic, people are buying more casual clothing.
I don’t think followers matter at all! I think it matters more about how often you post, how active you are, etc. It really just seems to be about the product
luvcoachgal7
@cottontalefarm i had one guy give me 1 star, kept the item claiming it was a bad fit . Lol 😂 there is just no reason. Thank you for this message. I enjoyed sharing your closet!
