catketter001 This is very pretty fabric. I know form experience that the side zippers may be hard to move from the bottom to the bodice, is this dress hard to zip?

terrysfinds @catketter001 Good morning Cat, hope all is well. I just checked the zipper and it works fine and as regards the pique cotton I’m not sure , I did google pique cotton and it strongly resembles the pic .. took a pic of the label which I posted with the other pictures.. I hope this helps.. have a great day.. Mary☘️☘️

catketter001 Yes that's Talbots standard cottone pique fabric (lwhat original golf shirts were made of ).. It is a breathable fabic and it doesn't tend to show stains like poliched cottong does. It is more casual but between the pront pattern and the pique texture, no stain would show unless it was yellow mustard...which stains due to tumeric (hwich has been use as a fabric dye).

catketter001 I worked for Talbots part-time for the past 5 years (COVID eneded that). I made all my own clothes from about the age of 10 or 12 until graduate school and I discovered hand me-downs from friends and Salvation Army store. I made my entire maternity wardrobe and used to make clothes for my nephews and nieces. My mother gave me a tiny sweing machine when I was 6 for my birthday. I made costimes for theatre in high school and undergrad. So that's how I aquired my knowledge of fabrics.

catketter001 Frabric quality determines the how the garment will hang and how it will wear, Many times the difference between two similar black dresses will be fabric (fiber content, natural fibers are more expensive but they breathe) and how the fabric is cur. If it is cut on the diagonal (bias-cut), a dress, blouse, or jacket will retain its shape better as the direction of stress when you wear it is not int he same direction as the fibers in the weave. Bias cut costs more because you have to use a larger

catketter001 piece of fabric to cut the pattern pieces (garment template) from. If there is a pattern or plaid, it will require even more for you to ensure that the pieces match were they are sewn together so the pattern appears seamless. This is what you will notice in more expnsive ($$400-500+/dress or blouse) garments. These are truly investment pieces as you will be able to wear them for ever provided you stay the same size. Brands like Chanel, St. John, Akris, Escada, etc., this is what you pay for.

catketter001 I am happy ot help you with fabric questions anytime if it is a fabric I have worked with or sewn with. Fiber content does matter as does the cut of a garment. It is well worth the extra 20-40% for a well made garment -- it won't fall apart at the seams, pill, or discolor with sweat (silk is the expection -- human sweat can stain it badly) and the construction will assure that it looks great every time you put it on. Better to have a few fabulous things you can rotate and accessorize.

catketter001 I am in the process of moving my mother to where I live. If you still have this dress when I get her here, I will purchase this for her as it is her size. She has a Talbots cardigan that will coordinate with it.
