Beautiful and so unique Vintage Navajo made turquoise ring in a fabulous green color with deep brown matrix. Sterling pebbled edge with a feather design on one side.
This is not stamped Sterling or
signed by Artist. It tested as Sterling. Many people are uncertain about Sterling Silver and simply think that it must be stamped .925. This is inaccurate.
For the most part Native American Silversmiths did not start stamping their jewelry until the 1950's and 60's, and into the 70's. Between the 1930's and 60's most jewelry that was stamped was by the Bell Trading Company, HH Tammen and a couple other shops that made jewelry.
As far as the individual Artists Hallmark, or "signature", it wasn't until the 1970's that they really started marking their pieces. The reason they hadn't before is because they are a humble people who felt using their 'individual' Hallmark was being boastful and that is frowned upon in their culture. The huge Turquoise boom in the 70's changed that, and it became the norm to stamp and Hallmark their jewelry. Most authentic native jewelry is stamped w Sterling, not .925
Stone is solid and securely set in bezel. This is a very old piece that is in very good condition.
