This is a rare collectible piece. They were purchased on a family vacation and stored away in a china closet. These are 6 collectible ducks from La Tour D’Argent in France.
This restaurant has history dating back to 1582 and is still run by family today. I believe these are table card holders, but am not positive, so you decide. There is a notch on the tail of the duck but not a groove on the back of the head like you would think should be there to hold the other side of the card. I folded a card and it holds in the tail but it will have to be thicker stock. The card holders are in the original box. Very nicely weighted. The tail seems to be pewter rather than Silverplated. Original labels are still on the box and bottom of ducks. This is a very special piece for the collector or maybe someone who has a special memory from the restaurant.
The famed Parisian restaurant, started out as a cheap boarding house with a restaurant serving staples of steak and house red wine. It wasn’t until the seventeenth century that La Tour d’Argent became the go-to spot for the world’s glitterati.
Located on the banks of the River Seine, the sixth-floor restaurant marks the entrance to the scenic Latin Quarter, famous for the Sorbonne University and the Pantheon Church. Facing the river, the restaurant's enormous wrap-around bay windows frame picture-perfect Paris vistas of the city’s grey zinc rooftops planted with terracotta chimneys and the majestic Notre Dame Cathedral on the River Seine.
