EVAN-PICONE BULGARIA TAILORING: Shoulder to Shoulder 18" Armpit to Armpit 20.5" Sleeve Length 24.5" Jacket Length 28" Picone was born in Castronovo, Italy, in 1918. At age 7, he began to learn the roots of his trade as an apprentice in a local custom tailor shop He later applied these skills to women’s sportswear and mass production Picone, along with his partner, Charles Evans, founded the women’s apparel company Evan-Picone in 1949. Within three years, the duo had created what was to become a thriving skirt and slacks business — a name that continues today under the ownership of the Jones Apparel Group In 1962, Evans and Picone sold their company to Revlon, with Picone remaining on as president, only to repurchase the shares from the cosmetic giant five years later. Picone remained at the company’s helm until his retirement in 1983 However, just three years later, Picone came back to Seventh Avenue to help introduce the European collection of his friend, Achille Maramotti, the founder and head of MaxMara CHARLES EVANS Charles Evans, born Charles Shapera in New York City on May 13, 1927, was a successful businessman and philanthropist and the older brother of Oscar-nominated producer Robert Evans. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, Evans returned to New York where he got a job as a salesman in a clothing store owned by his aunt It was his idea that the fly front used on men's pants could also be used on women's skirts that made him his first fortune.
