Beautiful, deep "Purplish Red" Madagascar Ruby with GIA report included. Measuring 7.86 x 7.27 x 6.13mm, this loose Step Cut ruby has never been set. Rubies have a rich and longstanding history of beauty and value, with records suggesting that rubies were traded along China's North Silk Road as early as 200 BC, and Burma (now Myanmar) has been a significant source of world-reknowed rubies since at least 600 AD. Chinese noblemen adorned their armor with rubies because they believed the gem would grant protection. Red has long been described as the color of our most intense emotions—love and anger, passion and fury, and because of that and its similarity to the redness of blood, early cultures treasured rubies immensely, believing that they held the power of life. Rubies are also mentioned four times in the Bible, in association with attributes like beauty and wisdom.
