This antique Chinese cinnaar bracelet from the 1920s is the real thing; and, it is absolutely gorgeous. Traditionally made from resin in the sap of trees found in southern China,many layers of lacquer, tinted with cinnabar would be applied to a base structure, which was often made from wood, until the surface could be carved into complex geometric or figural patterns or designs. How can one tell if cinnabar is real? Examine it under a microscope. Real cinnabar will show signs of tool marks. It is not necessary to examine this lovely piece under a microscope as the brilliant tool marks of the artisan are visible with the naked eye. If I were even a slightly better photographer, you would see the fine detail more clearly. On the contrary, it is pretty easy to spot a fake cinnabar. They are normally made of plastic, therefore no tool marks. And subtle lines and bubbles will be present. I have thought long and hard about selling this precious piece, but due to advancing arthritis in my hands, I am no longer able to get it on. Too much information, I know. The circumference of the inside of the bracelet is 6.5", so it will fit comfortably on most wrist sizes. The lucky person who purchases this stunning bracelet will have a one-of-kind treasure.
