Gorgeous Antique Circa 1870s Horn Bangle Bracelet with Pique Work. Measures 5/8" wide and the diameter (opening) measures 2 & 9/16" across. Pique (pronounced “pea-kay”) work was a popular method of decorating objects during the 1800s. The word “pique” in French is “pricked,” aptly defining this type of embellishment since patterns are often made using dots. This inlaying technique was most often used on tortoise shell or horn. Artisans originally used pique work (also stylized as “piqué work”) to decorate ornamental objects in the 17th century. They applied the technique as a popular form of jewelry embellishment in the 1820s before it experienced a revival in the 1870s. Item I1.
