This is an antique Kashmir Sapphire, one of the rarest and most valuble gemstones on the market and in the world right now, with some of the highest quality stones from Sotheby's fetching prices of hundreds of thousands per carat! This particular stone weighs 0.90 Carats, measures 6.5 x 5.5 x 2.8mm, and has not been treated. I took photographs in different lighting, and the inclusions visible under magnification are nearly invisible to the naked eye. The stone appears darker in indoor or bright direct lighting, and brighter and velvety under daylight. These are so rare, that most people will only ever see them in a museum! Kashmir sapphires have a large number of tiny "silk" inclusions of acicular rutile. These kinds of inclusions are also present in Burmese and Sri Lankan sapphires, but in Kashmiri stones the inclusions are whispy arrangements of dust bands or blocks, diffusing light throughout the stone and giving the Kashmir sapphire its famous "velvety" quality.
