Story behind: Kublai Khân, the Mongol conqueror who defeated the Song dynasty and proclaimed himself emperor in 1280, left behind the memory of a strong-fisted ruler. According to Marco Polo, he once suffocated an enemy in a rug. From this we know that in ancient China the rug had functions other than ornamenting temple columns or sheltering nomadic knights. It also served as a punishment in the hands of the sovereign. Here is something that will enoble it even further.
