mtnloewens A quick question, it says 28-inch waistband, but it also says size 26.

aliceofshoeland @mtnloewens one of the most interesting discussions of our time! I could go on and on about this!! a "size 26" would originally have been designed for someone who's natural waist would measure 26 inches. Usually jeans sit a few inches lower than the natural waist, with the curve of the body, that usually means at least a few inches bigger than the natural waist measurement.

aliceofshoeland @mtnloewens Most of the clients I have worked with will be wearing (for example) a size 26 in jeans, with a natural waist measurement of 27 inches, and the ACTUAL waistband measurement is anywhere from 28-30 inches.

aliceofshoeland @mtnloewens Whenever I am dealing with a brand that sticks strictly to the patterns for any given size, clients are HORRIFIED by how small they fit. It's often referred to as vintage, or designer sizing. Most denim brands and contemporary brands, especially North American brands, do tend to cut on the comfortable side (aka on the loose side).

aliceofshoeland @mtnloewens I remember once buying a dress that was measured as a 36 inch waist (I was a size 12/14 at the time) - and maybe like a 34 in jeans, and I was so confused why it was too small - I wasn't big on measuring myself! Now I measure myself every month or so to make sure I'm not buying anything too small. I also measure garments ALL DAY long now - and it's really interesting!

aliceofshoeland @mtnloewens I have a pair of gorgeous cargo pants from Nili Lotan for sale here - they are a size 0 - and are designed to be worn oversize. Ideal for someone who is a 25 ish jeans maybe?? The waistband is 30 inches! Designers take a lot of liberty in cutting something to fit the way they want it to - which I get! But you will almost NEVER see an actual waistband measurement that corresponds to the size tag. Definitely worth measuring your favourite garments - you'll learn a TON!! <3
