Robert Larin was an important designer of the Canadian modernist & Brutalist movement. Based in Montreal, his studio employed around 25 workers, most of whom were deaf. All his jewellery was cast in pewter. After casting, each was filed by hand then oxidized or plated with silver or gold. He stopped production in 1972. Not sure if this piece is silver plated pewter. The chain is definitely steel as it is magnetic. This is a perfect example of his biomorphic design aesthetic.
