tandosmama @zoobeedoo This is the most common color--brown with the black face, but some are black or brindle. Females weigh about 150 lbs! She's been mellow since birth, but when needed she's agile like a cat, fierce with predators, and can catch and hold lambs without leaving a scratch on them. Giant love-bug! I'm guessing you've got animals too, no?

jayminielsen So I have to comment about your dog too :), she is beautiful! We are thinking about getting a dog soon and someone near us has mastiff/german shepherd mix pups. Would you recommend a dog this large? I want a mellow dog that is good with kids and other animals (we have kids, cats and chickens). I always tell my husband, "if we are going to get a dog, we are going to get a big dog" ;).

tandosmama @jayminielsen Hi Jaymi, funny you should ask this. Our mastiff is incredible. Never thought I'd like another breed more than my border collies. Zelda is super mellow--was since she was a pup. But she's capable of frightening ferocity if family is threatened. She herds sheep (no training from us) and will lay with a lamb in her arms and tenderly lick it until I come to fetch it from her.

tandosmama @jayminielsen We also have a German Shepherd now--purebred, from German and Czech champion stock, and bred by a friend of ours. At 9 mos she is the most hyper dog I've ever lived with--obeying every command EXCEPT to stop harassing all the animals on the farm. I'd advise meeting the parents of your potential pup. Many mastiffs are mellow, big dogs generally are in my experience. My husband swears the shepherds of his childhood were awesome dogs.

I always look for a dog who learns not only the basic commands you would teach any dog, but who pays enough attention to learn how to fit into the family and lifestyle. Our Boerboel has been beyond compare--and she feel like velvet. :)

zachsmom2006 @tandosmama I absolutely LOVE your dog! My sister has 2 mastiffs and they are 2 of the sweetest giants that I have ever met! Hailee, who is 3 yrs old, is fawn/black and Dahlia, who is 9 monthes old, is brindled. I have Taffy, a yellow lab who is 8 years old and the absolute sweetest dog you will ever meet, and Sierra, a Great Pyrenees that is 6 months old and a completely amazing bundle of energy! Sorry to jump in the middle of your conversation, but I just love dog people!

But the mom was really sweet and I tried to get her instead of a puppy, but the owner said no ;). She is laying by my feet now and I am in love. Poshmark releases the funds to the seller after the item is shipped and then received by the buyer. The buyer has three days to accept the package. I usually accept same day the package arrives. Poshmark will automatically release the funds to the seller three days after the shipment has been delivered if the buyer hasn't responded.

tandosmama @saltycwgrl lovely, just lovely :) We do much of the same but our farm (husband calls it farmette) is tiny compared to western tracts and we have that whole tropical and gator thing going on. Still, Florida cow-catchers were some of this country's first cowboys. My border collie passed at 17 yrs when my kids were little and I still miss her.

tandosmama @flagirlfsualum1 Thanks, Lisa! Our neighbors have (and apparently don't mind) bees in their roof and they swarm a couple of times a year. These were in one of our trees. I actually trapped them later, but they didn't stay with the hive I provided--probably had already settled on a new home elsewhere. The swarms are an amazing thing to experience. :)

The horse on the buckle looks like my daughter's first love--a chestnut gelding. :) Our girl in the pic that looks like your beloved goat is actually a sheep--blackbelly/katahdin cross. A real sweetheart and boss sheep.

Now we've got a South African mastiff (the girl in my header) and an Australian Stumpytail Cattle Dog. He's still a pup, but already working well with our livestock.

They’re not far from us—they’re in mansfield, MO, near where the Laura Ingalls Wilder home is—and they sell non GMO, non hybrid seeds. You would love it there! When i went it was before they became famous (martha stewart living etc :), however, now I believe they have a living history museum, several restaurants and stores, an apothecary, etc. blessings in Christ!

tandosmama @graceclothingco Thank you :) The second photo is of tiny limes setting on the flowers. Sadly the lime tree of many is one we lost during Hurricane Irma some years back. The citrus trees are also host to Swallowtail butterfly larvae.

tandosmama @graceclothingco It's funny that you say that because when I first discovered the larvae I didn't know what they were and they look more like lumps of bird poo than caterpillars! They didn't harm the tree and the butterflies are stunningly big and beautiful so we happily shared our lime tree.

tandosmama @graceclothingco I had a couple of hives for a short time and had attempted to house that swarm. I loved the energy of the bees, but didn't have great success with them. Bees are so fragile these days and prone to issues related to chemicals used in commercial agriculture. I gave my hives to a friend with more apiary experience hoping they might have a better chance to thrive. I'll bet your 40 acres are beautiful; farm, forest, rolling hills?

graceclothingco @tandosmama yes, our acreage is lovely; yes, the land gently rolls in slight ridges and rises towards the back fence. Deer 🦌 are common; i have easily counted forty of them grazing across the back pasture or cavorting in the front yard:). We hung birdfeeders out behind the house and we have flocks of them. Chickadees, a pair of cardinals, two pair of bluebirds now happily ensconced in wooden bluebird houses we put up on the backyard fence.

graceclothingco @tandosmama purple finches, goldfinches, grosbeaks, hummingbirds (i need to plant flowers they enjoy :), phoebe birds (sadly they built nests directly over our french doors last year and the babies fell out onto the concrete patio and died. I wonder if we could rig up some kind of safety netting below this year’s nest to avoid that?!!!)

graceclothingco @tandosmama our back pasture is a lovely field which our long time friends and neighbors mow, sometimes twice and three times a year!!!, for the hay. A copse of trees in a couple of places and rows of trees bordering our neighbors’ fenceline, beyond which their field stands above the little river branch rippling below our house under a high bridge (which nonetheless managed to become impassable due to flooding on either side a couple years ago :)

tandosmama @graceclothingco Sounds so beautiful, Jeanna. Our place is tiny in comparison....2.3 acres, but I love every inch. We're in a shrinking agricultural district south of Miami and bordering the everglades. We've currently got a small flock of Katahdin-Blackbelly mix sheep, chickens, guinea fowl, fruit trees and vegetable/herb gardens I hear you about the mowing! Although our sheep do a good job on the grass in my micro-rotation schedule, they can't be trusted with anything we want to keep growing!

Almost finished building a new coop for 40 pullets who are very ready to leave the brooder. A ram lamb born today to a new mama who had been raised in the house. We're so blessed! tandosmama @cocovalli We used to sell eggs, but over time we found that gifting our extras is a better experience. The sheep are called carneros by the Cubans here--raised for meat, not wool. We roasted lamb for Christmas. We got a few acres so our small flock of sheep grazes through a rotation and the chickens and guinea fowl all free range along with the ibis, egrets, and peacocks who fly in occasionally. How is the jewelry making coming along?

tandosmama Hey there, Val. Perhaps we could do a little weather swap--you share some cold and we'll send warm. Somewhere in the middle might be perfect! Our sheep are Katahdin/Blackbelly crosses. I've thought about getting a Dorper ram next time we're ready to bring in new blood as they're stockier than ours, also pricier though. And I do love the horns on the Blackbellies.
