Here’s how to curve that visor to perfection.
You’ll need:
a) A water canteen or a cylindrical water holder, like the kind people take to the gym. You don’t want something with a big circumference, though. Think a coffee mug. Fill the thing up halfway with water.
b) A source of steam, preferably a pot of boiling water or a steamer.
c) A pair of latex gloves. Unless you’re cool with manhandling the hat with bare hands.
Ready?
1. Bring a clean pot of water to a high heat boil. Or, turn on a steamer and set it to high.
2. Once you get plenty of steam, simply expose both sides of the visor to the steam. 15 seconds for the top, and 15 seconds for the bottom. Go as close as you want to the steam, just don’t wet that visor. Won’t hurt to do this twice for good measure.
3. Touch the visor and check for malleability; It should feel like you can bend it with ease. If it’s still firm, repeat step 2.
4. Grab that water canteen and lay it down the middle of the bottom side of the visor. Then, “wrap” that visor around that canteen.
5. Here’s the key part: With one hand, keep the visor wrapped, and with the other, “press” the centre of that visor into the canteen with force. This’ll prevent cracking.
6. Stay like this for 30 seconds.
7. Gently “pull” the canteen from out of your grasp with one hand, while holding your newly curved cap in the other.
8. Voila, the perfect curve.
