acertainage @kristimashburn Dammit has to be the best cat name I've ever heard. My ex adopted a mean one and named her Iodine, which maybe ties with Dammit. ("Dammit, Iodine, get your claws out of my ankle." They should live together.) Thank you for saying my closet is elegant. I'm not, but I do love pretty things... Daisy was billed as a Jack Russell mix on her Humane Society Resume, but who knows, I think there might be some Yorkie in there because of her coloring, and maybe some chihuahua to account for the perfection of that little pixie-face. What do you think? She's all terrier at heart, and is the first dog I've ever had who can't be trusted off the leash when we go hiking. She would hijack a bus to follow a squirrel, and would rather hunt for field mice in the back yard than eat liver treats.

She is so lucky to have someone who loves her so much! And Dammit . Well I have to say Iodine is even more fabulous . I'm stealing that for my next rescue !

acertainage Oh lord, the chases I've experienced since adopting Daisy! She thinks it's the best game, and neighborhood kids invariably want to "help catch Daisy" which makes her love the game even more. It's impossible to catch her, like grabbing a wild rabbit with your hands; she has to be tricked, which isn't easy, it grow tired of the game. Scary, because as smart as she is, she has no fear of cars and busy streets. With some dogs, there's a trick you can try: pretend to fall down and be hurt. "Yelp" like a hurt dog. Most dogs, even a stranger's dog that I was helping to chase up the street, will come over to see what's wrong with you, and you can calmly reach for the collar. I tried it with Daisy and she didn't fall for it. "Hope you aren't seriously injured, mom. See you at dinner!"

rainbowbreeze I'm all about rescues! I wouldn't have any other animal. My babies are now 13yr and 12yr! I have had them since they were puppies. Great to see another animal lover!!! 🐶

She would want to chase your cat, but I instead of running it just looked at her and yawned like our veterinarian's office cat, she would go boneless and roll over. If cats understood the power of looking bored, they could make dogs do their bidding.

acertainage @tamater I love corgis. Herding dogs fascinate me. Does Tori herd your granddaughters? At a dog park I used to visit with Daisy, there's a border collie who herds children. He does it mostly with kids who are wearing white tshirts.

tamater @acertainage I had to stop that when she was 6 weeks old. Those baby teeth on your ankles are like razors. I used a water bottle and lightly sprayed water at her when she did that and she stopped immediately. It's also how I taught her to not go near the street. We live in a gated community with very light traffic and I can take her outside to do her business or when I'm working in the flower beds and she never goes near the top of the driveway. She loves people but is very submissive to other dogs unless they're close to her size. She'll nudge my leg with her nose for attention. Corgis are highly intelligent and because of their excellent hearing are used as companions for people with hearing deficits. I wanted to get her certified as a therapy dog but she got very ill around her 2nd birthday and now takes 3 meds 2x/day and will have hip surgery in the next year. So we decided to just give her the best life she can and keep her healthy.

tamater @acertainage I'm just glad we got pet insurance. One vet billl was $4000!! I asked what happens when owners can't afford that kind of bill and was told they're usually put down. She brings us such happiness that I'd do whatever it takes to get her well. We are so blessed to have a fantastic vet. She's in Alaska as she is every year taking care of the dogs running the Iditarod. She volunteers and pays her own expenses. She's a true animal lover.

acertainage @tamater I had insurance for my old dog and it paid for itself many times over when she went through a destructive phase and chewed up things like empty aluminum cans and a shaving razor that she somehow stole from a countertop in the bathroom! (As it turned out, she had hidden the blade under a sofa cushion , but I thought she had swallowed it and had to get X-rays done at the emergency vet.) She lived to be over sixteen. My dear old sweet potato, a droopy funny English Cocker Spaniel named Alfalfa Rose. Daisy has to stay healthy, because my financial circumstances have changed pretty dramatically and insurance is out of reach right now. For both of us! If she ever gets sick, I'll start a Go Fund Me account. I might be too proud to beg for myself, but when it comes to my dog, I'll do whatever it takes.

tamater @acertainage Exactly! It's like when my children were young. I'd beg borrow or steal for them if necessary and now she's my baby and by taking on the responsibility of having an animal that's dependent on you, you have to do the best you can for them. She looks at me sometime and I just wish we could communicate. To tell me when she's not feeling well, or just say that she loves me b/c I know she thinks I'm her Mom. I hope you and Ms. Daisy have a long happy and healthy life together. Nice to know they are people that are truly dedicated to their fur babies like you. 🐕💞

So wound up giving feminine middle names to Alfalfa Rose and her predecessor Stymie Elizabeth. 😊 Stymie was a field-bred American Cocker, a svelte blonde, and the smartest dog I've ever known (made me think I was a good trainer; Alfalfa set me straight on that.) So loving and motherly, she rescued baby birds and never harmed a feather. I dream of my long-ago dogs. Do you?

acertainage @theneonetwork Maybe they dream of us too. ;-) When Alfalfa was in her prime, she had a purple rubber ball that she loved so dearly, I called it "The Precious." Over the years, the ball disappeared and I forgot about it. She had enough toys and tennis balls; they'd come and go. A few days after she died, I was working in my yard, picking up sticks and things before mowing, and there on the lawn was the purple rubber ball she had loved years before. Doggy magic. A visit.

acertainage @gimmecoffee Ha! I hear you. Whoever says men like that "are dogs" doesn't like dogs much. Daisy is my first terrier and the first dog I've had that I can't trust off the leash. A trainer told me that terriers think of us as speed bumps. They have places to go and things to do, mostly involving rodents, and we are slowing them down.

Daisy was a Humane Society dog but was in a foster home while she recovered from heartworm treatment, and it was a cushy gig: grandkids to play with, other dogs her size, and the foster mom made chicken stew for the dogs. When I adopted her, I think she thought she'd been kidnapped. 😃

Do they take in humans by chance? 😉 My little pup was roaming around a backyard in a less than great area of town, and no one could figure out where she came from. They asked me if I'd take her, and that little puppy face at 4 weeks old couldn't be told no.
