'LOVELACE' CREAM & SUGAR - ROYAL ALBERT CROWN CHINA

This ‘Lovelace’ vintage bone china cream and sugar set was manufactured by Royal Albert Crown China. Royal Albert is one of England's best-known names in fine china, and the Crown mark seen here was only used between 1931 and 1935. The pattern is a transfer design of leaves and flowers, hand-coloured in vivid shades - bright green for the leaves, with purple, rose and amber gold for the flowers - everywhere except for a lacey edging around the upper rims which is in the original brown transfer colour. And the edges of both pieces are finished with bright gilding. The cream and the sugar are both in excellent condition, without cracks, chips, scratches, stains, wear marks, or any other damage. There is, however, one small manufacturing flaw in the bottom inside of the creamer – a small black fleck of ash or other material was caught in the glaze and fired in permanently. It does not appear to have affected the use of the piece. A charming set nearly a century old!
