shmark7826 Hello Allegra. I love the long cardigan I purchased. Thank you. I did not realize it said to dry-clean only. Have you in fact every washed it? Based on your experience, do you think I could take a chance washing it on the ultra gentle ‘handwash’ cycle?

mimsys_closet @shmark7826 Hello! I am so happy you love it! So, this was a consignment piece so I don’t know if has ever been washed. However, in my experience, you can often have great success washing clothes which are labeled dry clean only.

mimsys_closet @shmark7826 However, I would not recommend putting it in a washing machine, even on the most delicate cycle. The act of agitation is what can cause the most damage to fibers. You could probably hand wash this successfully.

mimsys_closet @shmark7826 My favorite hand washing soap is Soak. It’s a no-rinse wash and it works great! The scents are fairly subtle but they have a scentless one. If you decide to try to hand wash this just remember to use cool water and gently agitate with your fingers. Then let soak for 15-30 minutes. Then gently press the water out and I like to lay garments flat on a towel and roll them up for a while (which gets most of the water out). Then lay over a drying rack or lay flat on a dry towel to dry.

mimsys_closet Sorry if I overloaded you with info but I hope it’s helpful! I am definitely a fan of hand washing garments as it’s better for the fibers, your wallet and the environment. However, there is always a risk that the dyes will run or they’ll shrink. Anyway, thank you so much for shopping at my closet. It’s a small business so your patronage is most appreciated!!! It's been somewhat tumultuous recently (well, for about a year 😬). But so many things to be grateful for, too. Mina is a riot- these little people teach us so much about living in the present and being silly and letting go. I'm not always so good at those things.
