@slp322 Yes, so far in remission for 4 months after many surgeies & lot's of horrible treatmens. Third time with Cancer. Had cervical cancer & pituitar/adrenal gland Cancer. I feel like I should get one of those big boxing champion belts ๐.

I was at the doctor yesterday & got some grief for not getting back in a timely manner, but it's hard to be in 4 places at once. Doing the best I can until we can teleport ๐. I had no idea that you also had breast cancer, when I read about you somewhere else recurrence I am hoping not Stage 4 metastasis? And I know you know what that means. Iโm right there with bony mets everywhere, not a pity party by any means just an acknowledgement of similarities. Iโm clothing myself on Poshmark because I lost so much weight nothing fits!!!

Two of my children are not married, this expected baby is my first grandchild and I canโt have a relationship because who could do this to a person they loved, so I live alone with my dogs. The baby will be 1000 miles from me and I canโt fly because of infection. Life is so hard. But you know

@corwen Awww... although sooo many years ago, I remember my 1st sign of my first "Baby Bump". He's now a Sgt & Lead Intel in the US Army & just earned his 2nd degree. Also, blessed me with my beautiful granddaughter. I try to focus on these beautiful things (sometimes the saddest part as well, knowing I won't see it all). You will never walk alone my friend... walking beside you. And don't forget the legacy you have made in that Beautiful Baby Bump ๐๐

@corwen I get angry too. There is frustration in others not understanding; I just try to keep in mind, I am glad others don't know this devastation. Perhaps something I came away with from being a nurse for so long; as well as, life experience. I lost 4 children to still birth in my 8th month. Many "stupid" things said to me then. You can't know that pain unless you live it. I don't want anyone else to live it. So I brush off those that don't understand.

And I know now you are part angel. I have three children and had two early miscarriages followed by live births soon after. I cannot imagine the things you have been through. I know the lingo, I was an ICU nurse for years, then nurse practitioner both Neurosurgery,then Neurology until my second diagnosis. I probably worked self to death. But I keep trying to educate these people so they donโt do it to anyone else. Perhaps I need to write a book. DO NOT SAY THIS

I'd like to believe I had a hand in that; especially having not been fortunate enough to have even had 1 biologically good parental example. I learned a lot of what NOT to do from them, but still made my share of mistakes.

Letโs do it, I just have the three but actually they are pretty good, successful in the ways of the world, and how! But most of all, good kind people who will actually give you the shirt or jacket off their back. And as for nursing, Iโve ordered comfort care and Iโve carried out comfort care more times than I can tell you. And every single time I know it was the right order, and done correctly.

Responsible for raising & molding someone to be part of this world is no easy feat! Giving that much of yourself, in essence, your heart walking around outside of your body. Like I said, your legacy! And I thought I was kind to the students when I let them actually hands on let them care for the patients. But me, oh no sister, I had a student phlebotomist draw blood without a tourniquet last month. Oooops she forgot. Iโm so thin in my arms that my veins are like a guyโs on my right arm, hose pipes anyway but honestly, and no gloves. And her supervisor missed it all.

Neuro is a place where you get to comfort care pretty often, or you should. Think about the disease entities. They are quite a group, not that it wasnโt truly my privilege to take care of every single one of those patients, no matter how desperate and sometimes how demanding their families became

@corwen I feel you! Psych & Pediatrics for me. I suppose all of us Mom's & Nurses have a lot to commiserate about. Front lines for certain. Desperately seeking the answers to what even our faith questions. Somehow I thought it might get easier...but how wrong I was to ever think that. Much beyond that typical. Perhaps it's just how folks like you & I are wired. So not the poetic finally I had invisioned.

@corwen Oh trust & believe!! I've taken the needle from non-student phlebotomist's hands!! I don't know who is teaching these people these days!! Nursing isn't what it used to be... crying shame in my opinion. I became a nurse for a reason, it's who I am. Never imagined being anything but (aside from a Mom, which in essence is the same).

Neuro has a lot of psychiatry in it. Those brains ainโt right in so many ways. But the irony: my father who died when I was 3.5 was a psychiatrist and a neurologist boarded in both, the old school. My sister was a psychoanalyst but it doesnโt seem to inform our behavior much. As for peds you are getting your crown for sure. I just cannot do it except PICU.

As for nursing, people have suggested I should go to teach. I would fail half the class the first day for being unprepared. The second day the Dean would be speaking to me about how I canโt have these expectations, that students are different now. But we still let them near patients.

In my first nursing school a BSN class 80 started 33 graduated and the rest could never come back to that school. If you werenโt serious they just threw you out the door. Two fails, didactic or practicum and it was over. And I had 3 young children at home and graduated with my class. I almost died.

@corwen My 1st born son is a Forensic Psychologist 2nd degree, 1st degree in Human Intel; going on to his PhD in Psychiatry. Apple didn't fall far...seems he hit every branch ๐. Actually, all but 2nd born are in medical field/First Responder (2 professional Fire & Paramedics). 2nd went his Dad's route, Finance/Marketing/Suits. I'm certainly no saint, far from it. I think all us Nightingales come from somewhere special. Just trying to figure out where ๐คฃ

I got my LPN, then took Clep Test to get into Nursing II to get my associates RN, while parenting my teenage brother who was caught in the cross-fire of our disfunctional parents. Went on to BSN when my kids were teenagers. Got my Masters in Medical Administration. Toyed with APN, but then 1st bout with cancer put a halt to all of that.

@corwen 1st bout was cervical. Had a hysterectomy. Fortunately no invasion of uterus or elsewhere. 2nd bout Pituitary & adrenal (Went to MD Anderson in Houston for that fun stuff! Pituitary tumor recurred, but was benign. Still no fun, as they go up your nose to get at it. Then the breast cancer...never so much as a density, 8 months after annual mammo...bilateral. 4 surgeries, chemo, radiation...

@corwen 6 months remission (which I now believe to be BS! Now stage 4 Mets to places I didn't even know I had. Now, latest & greatest...they think actually began as Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I'm just blown away! Never going to Ortho again, as this all began because my hip hurt. Almost laughable! Either that, or fall into a puddle & push up Daisy's.

God almighty! Your history with cancer makes my life a walk in the park and I mean that. I had mammogram discovered Stage 2 invasive lobular carcinoma, OncoDx 6, no need for chemo and it wonโt work anyway, to slow growing, negative sentinel nodes. Segmental mastectomy (I hate the word lumpectomy so not medical but good enough for women) and whole breast radiation6 weeks every day. That was age 57 2/2007 to 6/2007 Failed AIs i had to work.

6/26/2017ihad a persistent pain my left calf I thought I had broke my fibula, mowing the lawn, foot in gopher hole? My nurse finally said after 14 weeks donโt come in Monday until youโve seen a doctor. Went to Better med saw the PA and when I saw the lesion in my fibula 1cm I told it was mets.

I have innumerable lesions in every vertebra, in the skull, every bone of pelvis, head of both femurs, and the lesion was 4.5cm in my left fibula. My right hip would have broken soon but my BMD had been 2 standard deviations better than the average 30 yo before all this about 3 years before 2nd diagnosis.

But Iโm super lucky I really have responded well to Ibrance, and Xgeva and exemestane. So my disease is currently well controlled. The side effects are not good but I have fentanyl patches and Dilaudid which I never take too much constipation Iโd rather have bone pain than digitally disimpact myself!!!! Not lol!!!

But Iโm going to say that I understand stand perfectly your medical history and it makes me cry for you. You probably havenโt been best managed although I am shocked by MDAnderson. But they drop the ball too sometimes. And bless your heart I know all about pit tumors and the different surgical approaches I first worked in Neurosurgery as an NP. Much easier than Neurology.

@corwen I don't think this is a walk in the park for any of us. Maybe I got lucky a few times, but maybe it's been brewing all along, who knows. Life's been so crazy. Single parenting my kids, brother, ex, parents, etc. Honestly, so very tired I often just pray to go home.

Repeat after me,I will never becomes nurse practitioner. Far too much work. Like the docs completely independent but worse money than an ICU nurse with overtime. And most of the time I was a better clinician than the doctor. Saved many anMD behind from malpractice or loss of license.

I hear you, and I would never be the one to minimize that feeling but as I know you know, itโs a permanent solution to a temporary misery. Donโt make me have to make a contract with you. Iโve done it with everyone of my children and the Lord knows how many patients. But I donโt minimize that feeling, itโs a hard hard life we have now just sitting on the sofa hurt
