ugentfurs @drewski918 quickly? Consignment shops but they will probably give you a low value. Otherwise keep doing what you are doing by trying to sell them on here and other selling venues. This is what we would tell anyone who asks us this, even customers. We don't buy used coats and our new coats are from our manufacturers or what we create ourselves. On a personal note, what I buy on poshmark is for myself- jeans, etc. As a seller, I only sell from my family's store's inventory.

For real furs, if you need help describing them or an estimate of what they are worth, you can send us photos through our website (in the "about" section or Google) and we can send you a quick write up. sherylpt Andrea, I see that you are an expert on furs! May I ask you a question about one of the fur coats in my closet? I was originally told that the coat is mink but today another posher informed me that it is muskrat. Could I have you take a look at it and give me your opinion?

ugentfurs @sherylpt yes. that was me actually. The other account is my own clothes. My dad is a master furrier and an accredited insurance appraiser so he can identify furs just by looking at them. It doesn't make it worth any less, though, because it can have unique coloring like your coat. We still sell muskrat in our store because they are slightly more affordable than mink, and have really unique coloring. Fitch is another one with gorgeous colors.

ugentfurs @sherylpt Muskrat has an ugly name, but really unique coloring. I knew that wasn't mink when I saw it, so I asked my dad. But the reason I knew was because the unique color patterns. Mink is the go-to for most people since it's what they heard of, but oftentimes other furs are far more unique. We even have a few squirrel coats we sell, and you would never imagine the fur is squirrel but the color pattern is fantastic. Natural phantom sheared beaver is another one of my favorites for coloring.

My father runs the business now, but it was started by my great grandfather in 1922, and my father, grandfather, and great grandfather have all been presidents of the Master Furriers Guild. Even our seamstresses have all worked for us for more than 40 years. So it is truly a family business built around love.

ugentfurs @foxhuntgirl1 Hi! it depends on the condition whether alterations can be done. Fur that hasn't been stored properly in the summer months dries out and the hide becomes like paper to sew through. Which it is why it is hard to advise without actually seeing the coat. But go to our website (This username dot com) and send a contact form to my dad, the furrier. He might have some advice.

ugentfurs @foxhuntgirl1 I would also recommend also having us clean it for you. You will be amazed the difference it will make. It's not the dry cleaning process- which destroys fur. We do everything in house- we have large drums we fill with ground up corn and sawdust, and they absorb all the dirt, grease. and odor, and then reverse the process and they condition and shine up the fur and suede. I think you will be pleased.

We still sell Dero so unless they have another product line I am not aware of, that should be cabretta lamb leather and not cow leather. Better quality, more pliable, and softer.

ugentfurs @crschuman If there is suede (or hide) between the pieces, that is usually called corded. If that is what you mean. Fox fur coats are always corded to reduce the weight, but it can be thin cords or wide corded. I have two black fox corded jackets, but they are jackets, not 3/4. I also have a skunk coat that is corded.

ugentfurs @crschuman if you would be willing to buy new, then I suggest going to our website for far more options. If you like the corded look, you may also like mink tails. I think because of your size, that may limit even more what we would have available in used. We're in the Midwest, lots of food so lots of large customers.

ugentfurs @crschuman So glad to hear you love the skunk coat. You never accepted or rated the sale so I wasn't sure. Your size is a little tricky to fit since we don't actively purchase used coats. They are trade ins from customers when they are purchasing new again and from talking with our furrier friends on the coasts we've found our customers in the midwest tend to be larger sizes than their customers. I have a couple coats to add later tonight, let me look through my entire list.

ugentfurs @crschuman there is a site called estatefurs you might want to check out. It's run by another furrier. They have a large selection of coats. If you buy on here, I suggest you take the coat to a furrier immediately to confirm condition and fur type before you accept the delivery. Poshmark *does not* authenticate fur type. I've seen a couple of your likes on listings where the fur is incorrectly identified. Even if the seller says they know furs, better to confirm with a furrier.

ugentfurs @crschuman One more thing, just to keep in mind, our price for storage and cleaning for the year is $79 per coat. Everything is done in store, nothing ever leaves so your coat can't get lost. I know for some people it is cheaper for them to ship us their coats to store and clean than to store at the local furrier.

If you still have it, you can send us photos and the furrier can give you an approx resell value and description of the coat so you can post it. It's also possible you have blue fox and not silver fox as I know a lot of people get those mixed up.

The main difference between raccoon and beaver is the stripe pattern typical with raccoon. If both furs are of the same quality, the hairs would be the same length, coarseness, weight and warmth.

erin669 Hi Andrea. I wear a size 8, but I’ve noticed some of the vintage coats run small in the sleeves. I need 23.5 inches from my shoulder bone down past my wrist. As I said in an earlier message, I’m looking for a relatively inexpensive mink jacket to throw on while running errands around Denver. I had to return one I bought on this site that was “crunchy”, had bald spots, and a hole in the seam. So, since you’re a furrier, I’m hoping you can help me find something. Thank you!

And though we can't exactly do an appraisal without seeing the coat and feeling it, you are more than welcome to make a listing and tag me in it, and I can give you a general description of the coat to help with selling if you'd like.
