I was wondering if your last name is Graef. That is maiden last name and I thought it was neat to find someone with my family last name because I don’t find it often.

@danabee84 yes my last name is graef !! I believe it comes from the German word for “count” as in count dracula. My grandpa says it was changed from gräf upon emigrating, and he recently started a club for “those who have lose an umlaut “ lol anyway nice to meet you !!

@abgraef hello again! Yes you are right about all of that. My dad actually moved to the US from Germany when he was 18 and he changed the spelling to Americanize the last name from Gräf to Graef. I have also heard that it originally means “count” as well. Pretty cool to meet you. I rarely find anyone with the exact spelling of Graef and it’s pretty cool to find someone. Is your grandfather from Germany or do you have relatives you are aware of that trace back to Germany?

@abgraef all of my family on my Dad’s side still live in Germany, so I grew up visiting every few years. It’s a beautiful place! Most of my family live in the area of Germany known as Bavaria. My Oma and Opa (grand parents) live in a village called Bad Kissingen and if you look outside the windows of their home, you can see the ruins of an old mid-evil era stone castle. It’s SO COOL!
