poetdad April, I'm glad you love the ring! The finish on the ring was a design choice made by the designer of that era. Vintage rings are often have more design variety than the cookie cutter designs of today's rings If you want a jeweler can brush the entire outside ring. I always tell clients to wear a piece of jewelry for a while before deciding on rather to change anything. Thanks Frank
