Welcome to Posh!
ndvoice
@abarron85 hey, just responding to the question you left me. I think the post was removed again. Yes, it's 100% fake without a doubt. Please feel free to tag me on others if your unsure and I can help you learn about LV.
abarron85
@ndvoice k. Tks. I appreciate it. 😊
abarron85
@ndvoice what gave it away to you?
ndvoice
@abarron85 a few things...it's an older bag style (they said they had it for years)....so the leather would patina. After years, the leather would be more of a honey to Amber color. The stitching on LV bags is perfect...even, uniform, very exact. This one was not.
ndvoice
@abarron85 also the date code tag - the code does not follow LV standards. Too many digits and the date didn't make sense. The way the date was embossed, you could tell if was not stamped on real leather either.
ndvoice
@abarron85 ps...the lack of patina means that the leather was fake. LV uses a raw untreated leather that is meant to darken and age.
abarron85
@ndvoice oh ok. I see one listed by smkcouture that is crossbody. I'm guessing it's a fake?
ndvoice
@abarron85 you really have to look at all the details. Some fakes are good. They will fake a correct code or sometimes even use real leather. You can google too and learn a lot by looking at details and reading examples of real vs fake.
abarron85
@ndvoice I gotcha. I wish I had a local store so I could see one in person. I love the Stephen Sprouse rose neverfull
ndvoice
@abarron85 if you tag me on the Crossbody listing, I'll comment here and let you know. 😊
abarron85
@ndvoice I'm not sure how to tag someone, still new on here lol
ndvoice
@abarron85 I wish I had a local store too. I've had to learn online....mainly because I refuse to pay hundreds for a fake. So I read obsessively and lurked until I felt confident. Now my collection is growing lol
ndvoice
@abarron85 just write @ndvoice in the comments. Then I'll be able to see it.
ndvoice
@abarron85 the one you tagged me in looks real. I would like to know and see the date code, but the leather has aged correctly and the lining & stitching look good. In the 1970's date codes were not used, but anything 1980's until now should have a code. Sometimes they are really hard to find though.
abarron85
@ndvoice I thought it was real. Took a guess. What would you say is a fair price for that?
ndvoice
@abarron85 I would ask her for more photos. The condition of the bottom is important - if the leather is split or cracked in the corners. Are there cracks in the straps, or any major staining inside. If it's all ok, then $300 is a pretty fair price. Maybe start in the $250 range for an offer.
abarron85
@ndvoice thank you for the advice. I may just have to buy a kate spade for now if I can't work out a price. Love LV but most of it is out of my league. I do not want a replica. I'd rather have a legit bag from another brand
ndvoice
@abarron85 I had quite a spade and Kors collection after collecting for years. I recently sold off a few, to buy a couple LV. I tend to buy used - vintage LV. No way I can afford new! 😆 I still love my Kate spades - especially the beautiful colors.
abarron85
@ndvoice I like the neutrals. I had to take a break from color. I was totally hooked on Vera Bradley
ndvoice
@abarron85 omg I started on Vera too! Then coach, MK and Kate spade. My neutrals are coach and MK and my pops of color are Kate spade 😊
abarron85
@ndvoice I started on vera and always go back to it. Yet to have a kate yet but that's next on my list. They look good quality and I see good deals on posh. I don't have MK but have coach. I see everyone has coach here so I'm leaning towards kate spade. We have a bunch of LV here but I don't know how much of them are real. It's like every girl I see shopping in target has one lol
ndvoice
@abarron85 i don't really carry Vera much anymore. I have some travel stuff & giant totes. I'm keeping those. But for handbags, I've moved on. Vera was a lifesaver when my son was young and would throw his snacks or drink in my purse! I had a whole bottle of chocolate milk pour into my Vera once. And it washed out!
ndvoice
@abarron85 I think you'll like Kate spade. The quality is good and they offer more colors and prints and variety. I need to pay better attention when I'm shopping at target lol! I haven't noticed LV on others. I also live in the country...so my handbag fetish is unusual.
abarron85
@ndvoice I did live in the country but now I'm in the city. We are near a bunch of hospitals and doctors offices here as well as a few colleges. I didn't see LV often but here it was on many people. I noticed this when I worked part time at target as a cashier before I got back in the swing of working full time in an office. Kate Spade is becoming more popular here, although no one sells it locally. We are an hour from a kate spade outlet in Foley Alabama.
ndvoice
@abarron85 I'm in the lakes region of NH. It's about 2 1/2 hours to Boston, to get to LV or Kate Spade stores. I rarely see name brands here at all. Occasionally I'll see a coach bag, but that's about it. Fashion just isn't as important here. I grew up in the Boston area and fashion, hair, accessories - all of it was important.
abarron85
@ndvoice fashion was important in the small country town I was from. It was more like you had money or were popular for wearing certain clothes. Like Abercrombie and Fitch and preppy clothes was all the rage when I was in middle school. It was a small town 20 minutes out side of Tallahassee. So it was rural but close enough to go into town. There was alot of emphasis on name brands. I fell into that. Now I'm older I wear what I like regardless if it came from goodwill or macys.
ndvoice
@abarron85 oh yes, the name brand pressure was crazy when I was in school, back in Boston. That's the good thing about being where I am - there's no pressure & my son doesn't care about brands at all. (He's in junior high). But I have no one to share my love of nice bags! Lol
abarron85
@ndvoice oh gosh. My son is starting middle school. He's not so much into name brands yet. Middle school I'm not ready for lol. He is going from a country school to a city school so I'm nervous
ndvoice
@abarron85 yes, I'm kind of freaking out. Mine is going to a combined middle & high school for the whole region. So he's used to a 20 kids in his whole grade and now he'll be in school with a thousand. The middle / high classrooms are separated on different sides of the school, but the bus is combined and they are all together - 7th through 12th.
abarron85
@ndvoice oh crappy. That is scary. Same here. Hopefully they will adjust well. School starts here next week. I'm trying not to loose it lol. I am in the process of school shopping. I actually bought him a pair of under armour shoes on lord and Taylor for 28 bucks last night. It was the assert 6 sneakers. I was glad to find a good brand that cheap on sale.
ndvoice
@abarron85 the one you tagged me on is authentic. 😊
abarron85
@ndvoice I thought so 😊 hope all is well.
ndvoice
@abarron85 just peachy 😊 It's a great first bag for someone new to LV. I'm selling the same bag. But this lady's price is REALLY good. I'd confirm that there are no hidden defects - cracks to the canvas, or broken zipper. But if it's all good - grab it, cause that's a killer price!
abarron85
@ndvoice whats your price? It's cute. I was gonna make an offer. Probably too much right now but you never know
abarron85
I saw your bag, excellent condition. I like it if I have a larger budget I'd definitely make an offer
ndvoice
@abarron85 that one is real too. It's smaller than the first one. The first one is the GM - it's 12 X 9. This last one is the MM - it's 9 X 6. Exterior looks good, but the interior looks quite dirty.
abarron85
@ndvoice interior does not bother me if I can get a price break. I would try to clean it. I do like the first one better.
ndvoice
@abarron85 oh sorry - I just saw your other question about my bag! Sorry for my delay - I was multitasking. I was aiming to get $350- $400. But I know your a new collector just starting out and frankly, I think your very nice. For you I'll go down to $250
abarron85
@ndvoice ok. I will let you know if I can do that. Maybe later in the month . School expenses and all lol. My son starts this Thursday and he's terrified of middle school.
ndvoice
@abarron85 no worries! I'll be here when your ready. I know, the back to school expenses are killer. My son starts in 3 weeks...so we're just starting the shopping.
