basia_ania Hi Christie! I’m not sure whether you recall, but you and I had a brief conversation regarding a gorgeous pair of Fluevog boots that I’ve listed on Poshmark.

basia_ania If you would allow me to, I’d like to explain to you why I ceased communicating with you as I did, in a most rude and inexcusable manner.

basia_ania [Message 3 of several.] First and foremost, I cannot apologize enough for neglecting to respond to you after we last discussed the boots I’ve listed. At the risk of being entirely unprofessional, I hope you’ll permit me to explain myself a little bit. I’d like for you to understand how deeply sorry I am for disappointing you as I have, and for failing to live up to my moral responsibilities as a seller here…and as a decent human being, period.

basia_ania [Mssg 4] A day or 2 after our last interaction—our messages on Poshmark—my mother suddenly developed a severe systemic infection, stemming from a recent fall, which caused her to scrape the skin on her shin. I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, and I’m my parents’ primary (only) caretaker. Still, I was completely unprepared for all that followed.

basia_ania [5] So 3 hospital visits later—I accompanied her to each of these—we felt that FINALLY, this craziness with my mom was starting to be under some control. Yet, before I could even begin to return to my own life, and appreciate how great it was to have successfully managed my mom’s persistent issues, and out of nowhere, on a Friday morning—

basia_ania [6] mere DAYS after my mom was out of the most critical danger (things like gangrene, septic shock, etc.)—my DAD awoke with severe vision impairment in his left eye. And as the day progressed, these bizarre, sudden, and inexplicable symptoms with which my dad awoke that Friday—the fogginess; and lack of clarity in his eyesight in his left eye; as well as the steady, notable, a noticeable decline in his ability to see with the affected left eye—the symptoms got progressively worse.

basia_ania [not sure if 7 went through…ugh, I must be across as a straight up mentally ill individual….] Yet, before I could even begin to return to my own life, and appreciate how great it was to have successfully managed my mom’s persistent issues, and out of nowhere, on a Friday morning—mere DAYS after my mom was out of the most critical danger (things like gangrene, septic shock, etc.)—my DAD awoke with severe vision impairment in his left eye.

My dad’s situation was urgent enough that we made a 9 AM appointment with an eye specialist/surgeon for 2 days later,

basia_ania [9] for 2 days later, for the Monday following the Friday when these terrifying symptoms started. The specialist conducted his exam, and told us my dad’s left retina is partially detached, and that if it detaches completely, my dad will never even have a chance to regain ANY vision in his left eye. He explained that surgery was IMMEDIATELY REQUIRED, and the only hope for saving any vision in my dad’s left eye.

basia_ania [10] I asked why. Why is this happening to my dad. How did his retina detach like that, so unexpectedly?? There had been no traumatic injury—like a car accident, or a fall—nor anything else that might caused such an injury. The specialist said it does happen occasionally, without warning, based on DNA only. So a genetically caused problem.

basia_ania [11] Anyway, he felt surgery was required immediately. He scheduled my dad’s for 2 days later, on Wednesday morning (which was on my dad’s birthday, no less)! By the time my dad and I finished this appointment, and were walking out of the specialist’s office building, my dad’s vision in his left eye, it went completely dark. Just suddenly.

basia_ania [12] So my father, he woke up with this on Friday, we saw the specialist about it Monday, and surgery was scheduled for Wednesday morning. And yet, just hours within suspecting something might be wrong, he went from “having some strange vision problems” on Friday morning, to Iosing 100% of his eyesight in that eye by 10 AM the following Monday. I could not believe any of it. My dad did have surgery that Wednesday morning.

basia_ania [13] The specialist reported that in his estimation, the surgery was a complete success, and he was beyond pleased with his own work. However, it’s been nearly a month since my dad’s retina reattachment surgery, and my dad is still not able to see from most of his left eye. We are immigrants, and in the country of our birth, people do not usually retire.

basia_ania [14] This is particularly true of men, but all my grandmothers, and their mothers—not one of them “retired” either. I think it is in our blood. :) We just work and work until it is literally no longer possible. My dad, he is in his mid 70s, and he still owns and runs his own little Polish food restaurant. He even makes all the food himself.

basia_ania
basia_ania [15] To think that something like this unprecedented, completely unexpected partially detached retina could potentially lead to my dad having to make serious, major changes in his life; to accommodate a whole new disability, it was heartbreaking. I honestly can’t imagine how he would have coped. In any case!! I have taken up MORE than enough of your time!

basia_ania [16] If you are still interested in the boots, and would like me to send you additional photos, it would be my pleasure. Furthermore, given all these obstacles I placed in you way, I’m happy to offer you another 20$ discount on the listed price. Please. Contact me at your convenience. Happy holidays to you and yours. I wish you the very best, Basia
