Well my Dear, my Moms family is from St.Martinville Louisiana Opelousas.
Her name was Betty Melonson, Grandmother Christine Melonson. Were considered French / Creole people, Free People of Color in the Antebellum time, during slavery, our people were products of the master raping the slaves, a mulatto or mixed race. I know that's alot, but its facts. Thier is a book on Amazon, called Melonson/Melanson/ Melancon families. Check it out xoxo.

@adeaux28 ...European besides a small amount of Native American. I have always assumed that that small amount comes from something nefarious like you described :( I have also done some digging into family records and I believe some of my ancestors were slave owners. It’s obviously not something I’m proud of, but I acknowledge that fact and I’m doing my best to fight racism and stay on the right side of history. You’re incredibly beautiful as well, thanks for taking the time to reach out💖
