ohusoneedthis Hi Christine! Thanks for shares and the very kind message! I so appreciate your prayers!!! I pray for you, too!!! It’s great to meet such a kind and inspiring person on posh! I’m feeling just a little less depressed! It’s just been a rough year! I lost my mom in January. It was expected. I’d been taking care of her for most of my life.

ohusoneedthis She’d been a paraplegic since 14 due to a birth defect! She could walk one day and woke up the next and couldn’t! That would really throw you for a loop esp if you were 14! She survived so many horrible illnesses over her lifetime it amazes me! But, the last 12 yrs were really rough! I had degree in nsg but my Master’s in Nsg was in Psychiatry and I had worked as a Pdychotherapist and then my last few yrs as a Nurse Practitioner.

ohusoneedthis I knew from the start that I didn’t want to do the stuff that tech’s and staff RN’s did. I didn’t even wanna do med/surg nsg! I think the people who do those jobs are never thanked or paid enough! I admire them for being able to do the things that I just couldn’t handle! I also know how thankful and often attached to certain staff members during stays in ortho- and neuro- rehab centers. Some of these caretakers were so important to her.

lovehopeandpray @ohusoneedthis This year has been “one for the books” for sure. I’m so sorry about your mom. Losing a parent is so hard. I lost mine 11 years ago this December due to a short illness with a brain tumor. With time it does gets easier, but a daughter will always miss her mom. I would have loved for her to meet my three grandsons. They would have been her pride & joy! But I know where she is and she is well!

ohusoneedthis So sorry. But, we had to get gifts, etc for her caregivers!!! And on one occasion when she was doing pretty well, an actual visit back. When shen started to really go down about 10 yrs before. There were a lot of home health nurses that found out that I was actually a nurse. I stayed with mom about 24/7. Career ended with epilepsy diagnosis! But, the nurses didn’t want to come as often since I had been a nurse!

ohusoneedthis I apologize this has been so long! But momhad a supra oubic catheter for her urine that last and poor thing had colostomy for poop could be ok still gross and malfunctioned frequently! Gross! Leaving poop all over bed and mom!!! That became my day to day. My husband who still lived in our house paid for me to have a little help—we are basically seperated now for yrs!

ohusoneedthis I had a tech 3 days a wk for 6 hours! Helped a lot but she came early like 5am and was outta here by 11am! She refused to cook but would go pick up something to eat! So , I never could get like an afternoon off—well, unless, my dad helped. He would occasionally come by and stay if i had to go to store. They had been divorced like somewhere around 40 yrs.

ohusoneedthis Last comment I promise! She passed away in her sleep January of this year. I had been on call 24/7 for many yrs. and I suddenly felt at Peace and a huge lift off my shoulders!!!! I laid my head on her chest and Prayed to God for knowing that it was her time to go! Asking him to welcome her into Heaven and let her suffering end forever! I felt pretty good about things until recently but have started working at a few things with therapist recently!

ohusoneedthis I hope you didn’t bother reading allthat! I need to keep my mouth shut! I must start journaling—because for some reason lately I’m having a lot of memories! Started therapy for a 2nd time a couple of weeks ago. Thus far, off to a good start! I’m sorry to have burdened you!!!
