Hi! I'm Cricket. Some of my favorite brands are true Vintage, J. Crew, Free People, Lilly Pulitzer, Anthropologie, and Ann Taylor. I live in a rural area. We have lots of amazing special needs animals: 4 cats, 2 dogs, and 4 goats (who are not special needs but still very special!) I volunteer at an animal shelter about 60 miles away, and I'm shadowing a vet to prep for vet school. Proceeds from my sales will help to offset the expenses of our 4 special needs kitties and one special needs rescue dog. They all take daily medicines and/or are on prescription diets for severe allergies! One kitty is in stage 1 kidney failure. A few people have asked about our new pup: he's half Corgi, and half Australian Shepherd, all awesome! The previous owner knew the dog had heartworms but decided not to treat him!? He is only 4 but has had heartworms most of his life, he was so sick he couldn't walk anymore and hardly moved; we thought he was going to die before we could even start treatment. But he's a scrappy lol guy! He's gone through a lot to battle heartworms; it's a long and intensive treatment plan lasting 6 months! He will always have some damage to his lungs, but thank God no damage to his heart. He is learning to run fast, play with toys and just finally feel well enough to just be a dog and have fun! Yeah! 🎉 Thank you!

cricketlee001 @lillievonstoop1 Thank you! Not that I can take credit... the first kitty is a Norwegian Forest cat who was was born blind. She's very gentle but very adventurous. She's shown me that blind kitties are very adaptable and can live normal lives when given the chance. She's a major blessing in my life!

cricketlee001 @lillievonstoop1 Thank you for saying that. 😊God put into my heart from as long as I can remember, the desire to love animals and care for them. I used to volunteer in a cat "retirement home" that had over 200 cats, and sometimes only one or two people there all day to care for them. I already had my blind kitty, but it was there I was exposed to all the special needs kitties.

cricketlee001 To me, the fact that they're missing a eye, or have no eyes, it are missing a leg or their tail, or what have you, just gives them more character! The kitties who have kidney disease, or FIV, etc, still need love. It's amazing how resilient animals are, and that they still just want to love and be loved. it's so wonderfully simple! 😻

lillievonstoop1 How can you resist them.... cats are beautiful. I rescued an abandoned one from the outdoors. She's the one in my picture. She had a rough life outside. Her teeth are falling out. We're doing our best. She's very grateful for a warm bed and plenty of clean water and yummy food. She doesn't even want to go out. Her and my other 2 cats are indoor cats. Such love and cuddles. ❤

I have a special needs girl and literally have to chase her down and hold her mouth open to give meds - it breaks my heart every single night 💔 she's on a maintenance steroid and anti-depressant (I melt pill in hot water and syringe it into her mouth when cool) 😿

cricketlee001 @eriley755 Meds can be tough! Have you tried a pill popper? It basically puts the pill in the back of the throat so they swallow by reflex and then you can "chase" it with broth, tuna juice, or water. Also, learning how to open the mouth can be tricky at first. If you watch you tube videos of vets showing how, it does it in a way that hinges the jaw naturally so that they can't close. makes giving a pill or fluids much easier!

cricketlee001 Have you talked to your vet about spacing out the steroids? With prolonged use those can cause diabetes in some cats. I have a kitty that takes that for several environmental and food allergies, and I space out the steroids (she agrees an allergist, and he's been really wonderful at helping her to live a pretty normal life considering she's allergic to just about everything!)

cricketlee001 And also rewarding her immediately after. I leaned in Ann animal behavior class that the animal brain links action and reward within a 7 second window, so you have to praise and reward immediately, or they won't make the connection. And just keeping yourself as calm as you can, as she can sense you being tense before you do it. I know it's hard to pretend it's no big deal when you're dreading it, but it does help. And maybe a thunder shirt? For her, not you lol if she's anxious

I've heard of the pill poppers but one is pill and the other is liquid, so I just melt the pill and put them in same syringe so I'm only torturing her once 😿. I've looked up the hinge jaw thingie on YouTube but I swear my car has a jaw of steel lol.

I have 6 cats but she's my special girl ❤️ she's like a person more than a cat. I love her so much I told my husband when I die I want my ashes and hers in the same container so we'll be together forever. I know that makes me sound looney but I just love her so much ❤️🐾🐈

I've loved all my kitties, but my kitty soul mate who passed in 2014: I delivered her when she was stuck when her momma had a huge litter and was too tired to push, and 15 years later she died suddenly in my arms. I cried, and I mean wept, every day for about a year. I still cry when I see videos of her, but it's more happy tears now. Pet owners get that soul bond you can have with a beloved pet. 😻

cricketlee001 @eriley755 the hinge jaw move takes practice. if you're doing it right, they can't move their lower jaw. My vet has big hands and so it's easier for her than me. Plus I feel guilty doing it lol. I just have to remind myself it's better than the alternative of not having the meds. It was hard for me to give my kidney failure kitty her daily IV, but from volunteering in a larger shelter, I got used to it with so many kitties to help!

And awww I've never heard of a kitty being too tired to push poor lil thing. Good thing you were there....definitely a bond im sure! I believe we will see them again in heaven ❤️ hopefully they will be able to talk 😊.... and I can apologize for chasing her down every night to give her meds 😿

I'm on the fragile list and was told I could just get my prescriptions refilled because I can't go in...etc They changed the rules to face time. I have severe anxiety and panic attacks....I know boring.... I just want to let you know I appreciate your help ❤

cricketlee001 @lillievonstoop1 Oh I'm so sorry to hear that! Anxiety can be so challenging! But it's pretty amazing that doctors can see us doing face time, I've got one of those appts coming up. (my doctors didn't offer that before but their practice got certified to be able to do it now, which is pretty awesome!) Are you feeling up to taking a stroll? I find that taking in fresh air helps.

lillievonstoop1 That would be nice but we have snow and 40mph wind gusts. I also have Meniere's disease and had to have the nerve in my ear destroyed to get rid of vertigo. Vertigo was severe. So now I walk unbalanced and look drunk....so much fun. Doc said I would get my balance back but it would take a while. I'm mending clothes instead...🐰

lillievonstoop1 Yes.... thank God for kitties!!! I have three and they have a toy box with all their toys in it. It's fun to watch them go through the box and pick a toy out. Hysterical even. cricketlee001 @lillievonstoop1 Oh, please feel free to reach out anytime 😊 Yes, I have my faith and my kitties, and I'm a newlywed. I have a lot of autoimmune and subsequent pain issues, and can't take most medicines due to allergies. It seems like it's always something! But I just try to constantly remind myself that it could always be a LOT worse, and work with what I've got. And not let it define me!!! And I've found that adding another kitty to the fold usually solves most problems 😻😉

If you don't mind me asking, have they suggested any alternatives for pain management beyond pain pills? The reason I ask is I'm allergic to the majority of pain meds beyond Tylenol, but my Rheumatologist has put me on some other meds that have helped my nerve pain. Before that, I couldn't take anything and was just miserable. It's hard when pain becomes your new normal.

cricketlee001 (not trying to be nosy) The reason I ask is because I had one friend waiting for a check, and another in the past got their annual tax refund, but got it put onto a debit card and in both cases they were still waiting and had to go back on the IRS site & enter their information. Maybe you've already thought of this: could you offer a special to your regular clientele to prepay for their next visit? Yes, the situation really stinks, to say the least!!!

I take draws out of our earnings for Mom and I. We both worked at the salon for 15 yrs. Anyhow nothing coming down the pike for us yet. We applied for SBA loans but those went to Ruth CHris stk house and corporations, we applied for Cosmetology grant nope, we applied for Venture PDX...nope. So i did 2018 taxes and 2019 so maybe a stimulus chk. So an acutal chk

There was a story the other day that the IRS reported a "glitch" for paper checks and then it could be months before people get paper checks! My goodness, what a mess!

cricketlee001 @jenz0325 Thank you! He actually left a lucrative position managing an ER to do this, because he really had a heart for hospice work. We live out in the country, so he's taking care of a lot of old ranchers and orchard farmers, etc. it's pretty neat. He comes home with a lot of great stories. We're also saving up so I can get my MA in Christian marital and pre-marital counseling. But in the meantime I'm a special needs kitty nurse lol 😉

These nerves are sensitive to even the slightest movement of air can detect objects without seeing them an advantage in the dark.Since whiskers are sensitive to pressure, cats use them to determine the position and movement of an object or of prey. also help to measure the width of an opening before they attempt to go through it. What do you think? Did the function of cat whiskers come about by evolution? Or was it designed?

cricketlee001 @tammur Hello, my grey kitty is a Norwegian Forest Cat. There's also a tabby, Russian blue and a Himalian/Siamese mix. I didn't know your breed was a great option for allergies, that's soooo neat!!!

cricketlee001 @tammur That's ironic that they are good for those with allergies as mine has severe food and environmental allergies. She's allergic to just about everything from most grasses, trees, meats, it's easier to say what she's not allergic to lol, but I at least found a very nice animal allergist that helped me figure out what was going on in her little body through testing and trial and error.

I love all animals, but cats are my jam 😻 and I always love to meet fellow cat lovers! 🐱 I also have two rescue goats that are really cool. They're very smart and have varied personalities, just like cats and dogs. If I had my way, I'd turn my whole property into a huge animal rescue but for now I volunteer at others. 🐈🐱🐾😻😺😽🐾

cricketlee001 @meldimick Yes, I agree! I love me some dogs but there's something extra special about the nature and behavior of cats! One of my kitties is recovering from kidney insufficiency (if it got worse it would be kidney failure) and she gets subQ fluids every morning and takes it like a champ. If you ever have the chance to volunteer with special needs kitties, it's wonderful experience you may use later with your own. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐈

cricketlee001 @dslammer Hey Dani 👋 Yes, she's a pretty girl, but she' was born blind so she doesn't know it 😉 Rescue animals are the BEST!! I've recently decided to go back to school to become a vet, and I'm shadowing a vet to see what it's really like. I joke with my husband I'll rack up the 150k in school debt to end up volunteering my vet skills at a shelter (most likely would play out that way!) Thank you for loving animals!!!
