@elareva back during the depression- my grandfather gave swimming lessons to wealthy kids- he was an Olympic Swim Coach, he had trained a few gold medalists . Everyone needed extra income then- this was on my Irish side. I don’t j know if they gave a pool after all these yrs? At Forest Hills!

@smaroulis I have so much respect and admiration for everyone who had to survive the depression. Your grandfather was incredibly talented and must’ve been so proud of his accomplishments in addition to supporting his family. My grandparents died before I was born but I know that my little girl mother and baby brother were in charge of the pushcart selling apples for a penny each.

@elareva oh that was really tough-,child labor back then- they were a stronger generation than us - horror stories. I think that’s why the Little Match Girl was the most meaningful book when I was a kid- still is- because of the suffering of children- how hard life was- it really touched me. My grandmother lost a lung to TB- they sewed her up w horsehair back then- but she survived. I’m sorry about your grandparents- my Irish Side (tough life) were a big influence on me me- ttyl❤️
