The ring is a very delicate item, and it needs to be fit, just like shoes must be fit, otherwise it is hard to use - either too tight to get in or too loose to hold on. It seems your son is a good size/tall guy, so the finger size is hard to estimate. It is best accurate to ask your son to stop by a neighborhood jewelry store to measure his size. We're considering shipping you a pair of 2 rings - 1 for your son & 1 for you as a gift.
