heatherwied @ginamamabirks yes. But in general I was kinda of diassponted to not see much color in leather. There were a couple new styles. But nothing too exciting I prefer the rich colors of oiled leather or nubuck. How do you order? Just private message?

ginamamabirks @heatherwied Yes, I agree. Lots of brown and black leather options. More color on the Birko Flor Uppers. I just order via a private message. She can give you the details. You can tell her I referred you. It takes several months, but for someone like me who needs regular width and wants stuff not always available in the US it is like hitting the jackpot! This time I ordered a few pairs in regular width that I KNOW will only be offered in narrow in the US.

heatherwied @ginamamabirks btw wanted to let you know that tom at ibirks will also change your Birkenstock size. So if you find some awesome uppers big a size too small or too big he can make it fit your size footbed. I found some Zinfandel oiled mayari in 38 and he's going to put a 39 footbed on them. I know you recommended him and I have used him about 4 times. He is awesome!

ginamamabirks @heatherwied Funny that you mention that. I just spoke to him about that last week. He is actually willing to go up/down more than one size tho most other retaliers will only go up/down 1 size from what you need. I just sent 2 pair in to be recrafted at Birkenstock Express. They charged less shipping. Tom's shipping fees and cost of repair have gone up since I wrote that blog. He has a quick turn around time tho. Birkenstock Express is going to take about 4 weeks. I don't mind the wait.

heatherwied @ginamamabirks do you know if they do it or outsource it? Do they do a good job? Last time tom did one of my mayari a the footbed felt more narrow that I had before. Even though marked regular. Weird right. I've worn them over 30 years and never had a footbed feel weird. Thinking maybe I should try be.

ginamamabirks @heatherwied he recrafted my Granadas and I thought the footbed felt narrow too (for regular width), I believe Birkenstock Express recrafts there. There is also In step in Austin. I have not used Birkenstock Express before. I sent them 2 pair and will blog about it.

heatherwied @ginamamabirks did you have them redo it or did you just wear them and they broke in?? They hurt so much that I don't want to wear them. Bums me out too because they are my favorite nubuck in brombeere(magenta)

ginamamabirks @heatherwied Honestly, I stuck them in the back of my closet until just a few weeks ago. I have been wearing them around the house in the evenings (with thick socks) and now they are ok. The arch is in the correct spot, I just felt like the sides were more narrow and higher. Not sure what your experience was with the footbed.

heatherwied @ginamamabirks omg! That was exactly my experience. They hurt so much I'm thinking of getting them recrafted again. The width on sides feel narrow compared to other brand new mayari in my closet. Recrafted is dark brown print sole and my others are the yellow print sole. So do they feel better now or still feel too narrow??

ginamamabirks @heatherwied Yes, they do feel better now. I think wearing the heavy socks helped a lot to widen the footbed. The dark print is the new soles. I wonder if the first set of the new soles were stamped out a wee bit more narrow?

ginamamabirks @heatherwied Also, do you know of a place in the Bay Area that is authorized to recraft Birkenstocks? I have not found one. Sometimes I wish I did not have to mail them in. However, most of the crafts people that I have called are not very friendly or willing to answer my questions.

heatherwied @ginamamabirks no I don't know of a place. There is a place called Birkenstock beach in San Louis obispo but haven't tried t only place I've found that is fast and reputable is tom. I called Birkenstock express and they said 6 weeks.

ginamamabirks @heatherwied I will let you know how the recraft comes out with Birkenstock Express. I was not in a hurry and I wanted to try them out. They have a great selection of Birkenstocks online and NO TAX. For those of us in the Bay Area, that it a 10% discount with each purchase!!

heatherwied @ginamamabirks I know I have ordered from them a ton. They are my go to Birkenstock retailer because of their great selection and no tax. Funny I was just walking trying to break in my new crafted mayari by Tom ( the ones that feel too narrow) and the straps started coming unglued. I emailed him. I'm hoping he'll fix if again because something's is obviously defective.

kicks_curator Just like you are a BIRKs expert Im sneaker expert. We declined your $70 offer on the Nimbus 18s. Because we sold them for $150. Just like BIRK fan will bay full retail or more for a pair, the same is true of new old stock running shoes but just specific ones. Just keep that in mind. If you get one 1/2 price like 75-80 you are just lucky. Full retail is what the market is. Regards
