olorip Hi there I was wondering if you could tell me about a ring you may have bought previously? It’s a diamond navette ring from jennyegret. camelot88 @olorip hi, yes I bought it but when she finally told me that it was sold to her as silver I was fed up and asked to cancel it. I felt she was selling it dishonestly because she was not giving all of the information. It looks like she tested it for gold and it came up as silver, but she’s just saying she’s “bad at the gold test” and telling people she doesn’t know what the metal is. I hope this helps!

camelot88 @olorip if you have a gem tester you should be fine, if they don’t test as diamonds then you can return it. Unless they’re moissonite, then they will test as diamonds and you’ll need an actual moissonite tester to know the difference.

I kept back/forthing with myself whether l wanted a beautiful ring But w/o any antique provenance which Really means something to me;) Even if it was antique SS I would’ve been ok with that, but just had a feeling it was a modern reproduction😔 Very lucky she canceled it, but she wasn’t very happy with me! Even though I was totally apologetic and told her it was my bad... I do get it & my feelings are only a tad hurt that she blocked me😂 TY again you really helped me😅

camelot88 @olorip I think you made the right call. I don’t think they made those in all sterling back in the day. It should be gold with those size diamonds. The fact she’s trying so hard to sell it here at such a low price w/out just taking it in & having a jeweler tell her what it’s made of makes me think it’s fake & really sketchy. A ring like that should be gold and diamonds and sell for at least $1k or more...I’m glad you and I got out of that one! Maybe it’s a good thing you got blocked 😉🤣

Her grandson, my late husband and I enjoyed her latter days spent together after the family lost much of its wealth due to an insurgent popularity of plastic flowers, and a terrible drain on the family wealth from cancer. I just love the history of these old pieces of jewelry and I am so glad to have this set 😊 I am glad you are feeling better about it, and I hope you can get someone to appraise the rest of your grandma’s jewelry before you sell it for your own peace of mind!

camelot88 @janeann3797 I have a friend who is an appraiser who does “verbal appraisals” where he will basically go in and look at someone’s jewelry and separate gold and fine jewelry from costume pieces, and he will tell them kind of price ranges that they should ask for pieces of jewelry based on which venue they want to sell it on.

camelot88 @janeann3797 This is nice because it doesn’t cost as much as a written appraisal, and you can take your own notes and do your own listings but still feel confident that you have had a professional look over the jewelry and that you aren’t letting expensive pieces go for very little money. Maybe you could find someone who does something like that in your area?

janeann3797 @camelot88 Thanks, I don't have so far, but may have. The jeweler I saw was able to separate the gold and advised me where to take the silver. The costume jewelry, including Grandma's set! is something out of the ordinary. I found a place online that appraised it quite satisfactorally by the pictures I sent at a cost of $30 which isn't too bad except it can be a bite if you're dealing with littlemore than that. Still, bit by bit...Thank you! and happy to have met your acquaintance.

camelot88 @janeann3797 that is good! Another way I learn about old jewelry is on Facebook, there’s a good group I use and post pictures to and they can really help you with good resources for free. It’s called “Antique & Vintage Identification Enthusiasts” and it has about 76k members. I’m happy to have talked to you too! I hope you have a great evening 😊
