karohut @kb_collection Thank you so much for the bundling offer. I also need to replace a beautiful boulder opal in a ring that I have. I will get the mm size from a jeweler for you. It was a beautiful dusky pink stone w a deep blue opal in the center. I rubbed some oil on it; I thought you were supposed to do this. The next morning the opal was black w no opalescence. Any idea what I did wrong?

kb_collection @karohut Hi Kathryn, Sorry that I'm just seeing your comment!! If the stone was dusty pink, it might be a Peruvian opal. But I never recommend putting anything on Australian opals. Also, Ethiopian opals should never be exposed to water but it won't affect Aussie opals. karohut @kb_collection thanks for your reply to my inquiry. I had someone tell me that opals needed moisture or tended to crack, so oil was a solution. Oops. I haven't been to a jeweler yet but I can tell you that the stone is oval. I wear a size 5 1/4 on my ring finger. The ring is a 6 and the stone covers my thumb almost exactly. If this is any help. I check out the site you posted. Thanks.

kb_collection @karohut It's a common misconception, so don't worry!! Actually, if you submerge Ethiopian opals in water, they can totally lose their opalescence due to being hydrophane gems!! They can sometime regain it after several hours, but more often than not, they don't sadly. Oil won't particularly harm other opals, but it really has a benefit.
