mwoehrle1 @clahbah 🌸 Hi! Thank you for your purchase of the Frye boots, you will love them! I’ll get them shipped out in the morning. I see you live in Minneapolis — I’m in St. Paul! ☺️🌸

clahbah @mwoehrle1 What a hoot that you are across the river in Saint Paul! I love your taste... including the Alaya earrings- I have a pair and my mother has the most gorgeous necklace of hers. We bought them on a trip in California.

clahbah Just checked out your short bio and pics, crazy fun, I’m a painter too! U of Iowa Graduate Program in the mid to late 80’s. Laura Hampton, Clahbah my Posh handle. laurahampton.com website! Older work, but good work. Do you have a website for your paintings?

mwoehrle1 @clahbah 🌸 Awww, thank you for the compliment. I love Ayala Bar jewelry, too! I’m just selling the ones I don’t wear as much or have been looking at too long 🤪. I’m new to selling on PM and it’s kinda fun! And I really love that someone new is going to appreciate these things. I also have started buying stuff on PM and that’s cool, too — I’m finding new brands to try that I’ve never heard of, etc. 🌸

clahbah @mwoehrle1 I began selling in the spring. It is fun, not to mention the opportunity to unload and refresh the closet. I’m needing to look through fall clothes. Today was a good day to have boots for sale! With Covid on its a safe way to shop, the post office trips easy with prepaid postage. I haven’t had great luck selling good jewelry at Poshmark and looking at Etsy.

mwoehrle1 @clahbah 🌸 OMG that’s so cool that you are an artist, too! I will definitely check out your website! No, I don’t have a website 😢, I wouldn’t have the first clue how to set one up 🤦🏼‍♀️! I retired from higher ed and have only been “identifying” as an artist for about 3 years. I work mostly in acrylic, but dabble in everything! I recently sold a big 36x48 so that was super fun/validating, but mostly I paint for my friends and family 😂.

clahbah @mwoehrle1 Check out the artist website design company “Other Peoples Pixels”. I used them to set up my website and pay $160-180 a year to keep it. The site is very easy to custom build your own site with so many choices for layout, etc. You can make changes 24/7 if you want to add or delete material. It’s very professional and worth the annual “lease” for lack of a better term. I write it off for advertising.

faberooz Hi Laura, I can't afford to go lower than $250 on the Navajo cuff, and that's a cut for me, as well, along with Poshmark's take. Sorry...
Sep 10Reply
clahbah
clahbah @faberooz I found a 5 split at Etsy. $130, w/out haggle. I have taught college art classes on the Navajo Nation for years (22) and have a good sense for pricing, on and off reservation. I have been on the lookout for the five split bracelet for awhile as have a 5 split ring. I also know pricing very well in Santa Fe. I have been collecting (to wear) for years. I could not pay anymore than $225 (high!). There is no way it would be at $500 in Santa Fe, $300 is steep.

faberooz @clahbah wish I had you with me when I bought it‼️

clahbah
clahbah @faberooz sorry! I have known several weavers over the years on the reservation. The mark up on their work so unfair. Of course as an artist I am familiar with gallery relationships. Percentage to artist can be as low as 40% to 60% to gallery. The minimum is 50/50. So mark ups can get out of hand. Maybe you should wear the bracelet!😉

faberooz
faberooz @clahbah I may, it's a good weight of silver & constructed well, I have never seen one exactly like it. Hope you enjoy your etsy piece - have a good weekend.
Sep 10Reply
faberooz
faberooz @clahbah BTW, you have an interesting background, you should expand your Poshmark bio.
Sep 10Reply
clahbah
clahbah @faberooz It’s a classic old Navajo style, my bracelet artist is a Begay, guessing by your initials your artist is a Yazzie. Both common Navajo last names. Same exact design, the five splits likely have meaning somewhere in Navajo cosmology. Both bracelets Contemporary pieces inspired by old design. I actually have two 5 split rings made by two different silversmiths. I have seen many 5 split that have stones mounted on the 3 or 5 splits. A sensible design to build a cuff.

clahbah I find it difficult to sell good jewelry (the work I have) on PM and may sell that at Etsy.

faberooz
faberooz @clahbah Are you by chance familiar with the artist Bea Etin Yazz?
Sep 10Reply
clahbah
clahbah @faberooz Yes, a early student of Santa Fe Indian school (boarding school in Santa Fe) along with Harrison Begay and Alan Houser. Dorthy (blanking on her last name) Anglo art teacher at the school encouraged the young students to incorporate their native stories and themes into their work.

faberooz @clahbah I have one of his paintings. one of the last where he painted around the frame, as well.

clahbah @faberooz I hope you enjoy the work. I lean more to interest in Navajo weaving. As happens in the small familial world of Navajo community, I had one of Harrison Begay’s grand daughters in my painting class at the college. Super talented young woman. She does film and is an activist in Albuquerque. She took me to her grandfather’s trailer in Chinle to meet him, special! A gentle, kind soul. While a legendary Navajo artist, very poor by American standards of living.

faberooz @clahbah You've lived a very exciting life. You could write a book.
Sep 11Reply
faberooz
faberooz @clahbah Harrison Begay must have been wkg all of the time - his pieces were every where.

clahbah @faberooz The relationship teaching on the reservation has been rich on many fronts. I do feel gratitude. You can see some of my work inspired by the region if you like at laurahampton.com. One early body of work from Canyon de Chelly, near the college where I teach. Scroll deeper to see watercolors done in situ around the reservation. Gorgeous country.
