From looking at the Birkenstock box, it states the upper is birka-flor Which apparently is a synthetic. Sorry if leather was your choice.

I haven’t had a return before but from my understanding, they ask for pics from you to show why they should accept your return and they give you a label if they approve it. Does this help ?🌻
