I volunteer my spare time at wildlife hospitals and sanctuaries. I love living simply and joined Poshmark to find new homes for things I no longer use, so that previously cherished items can live on. The tarantula pic is from last year - for my bday, I asked my sister if she would go on a night hike with me to look for tarantulas bc I had never seen one in the wild before & she saw them often on her mountain bike rides. It was as awesome as I had hoped. I saw 9 of them that night! And a couple of scorpions, too! I love that you appreciate different creatures in the same way! ☺️

marisabird @magpiemaven They are nocturnal, so you’ll have the best luck in the evening/night. Also, they are active from about maybe as early as July to October, but best in August or September. 😊 It’s SO cool to observe them in the wild! Good luck!

tijanala @marisabird we both live in Encino! What a small world. I actually started salsa dancing at a local park a couple weeks ago. It’s every Sunday afternoon with live music. It’s outside and feels safe, usually the same crowd comes by. Let me know if you’d like to come!

marisabird @tijanala oh wow! That sounds lovely! Are people spaced apart? Do they wear masks? I visit my mom sometimes and she’s high risk so I try to be cautious. But this sounds like so much fun! Do they show you basics and then everyone practices? Do people partner up or stay distanced? Lol so many questions!

tijanala @marisabird yeah, it’s totally understandable to have questions! I had them, too. It’s all about your own choice, which is awesome. People do have masks and some choose to only dance with masks on and/or those who wear masks. It’s a good practice for our new (and hopefully temporary) norm. :) There is no formal lesson, but people welcome and help each other. I stay for about an hour and a half, and since it’s outside and once a week, I gave myself permission to dance!😀

It is just the wildest thing to see such awe-inspiring creatures out in nature doing their thing. It’s like running into a celebrity (to me) haha. It’s like whoa, I’ve only ever seen you in books or on tv but here you are in real life!

magpiemaven @marisabird Yes!! I would be Starstruck too if had had the great blessing of watching them “doing their thing”. 🕷✨✨ All things critters give me that sensation. We’ve had the pleasure of watching a Baby porcupine Every night ( we call it Pom Pom), also a momma deer & her 2 fawns bouncing around my yard day & night. Not to mention the crows we feed, coyotes, skunks & this spring....count them...2 fisher in broad daylight. They are the Most elusive creatures.

magpiemaven @marisabird They walked right through my yard a day apart...I’ve never seen one in the daytime. One was a Huge male...the other...a smaller female....Wonder who he was following. Most peeps Never get to actually see them...probably a good thing. They love to Eat Cats.😱

What an adorable name, too! 😍 I’ve just recently befriended a couple of juvenile opossums that visit each night! They are such wonderful creatures to have around a house!

I know people who’ve lived deep in the Maine woods their whole lives and have Never seen one or come close. They are Amazing creatures with Huge teeth and are Solid muscle....they have a shrill cry that would stop you dead in your tracks If you have never heard one at night. They’re like mini grizzlies. 😁

samr2d2 @marisabird I couldn’t agree more. At most I had five dogs. Rescued dogs. Bearded dragons. Had snakes. Love all sorts of animals. Horses!! But unfortunately I haven’t found any where I moved to. I left my country to move to Florida. I am very good with strong breed dogs. That have been neglected or abused. Dogs that others put down, because they claim to be dangerous.

marisabird @arizonakelly Thank you! The panther chameleon was one that I took in when his original owner could no longer keep him. And the baby barn owl was a rescue that someone brought me, which I stabilized overnight and then transported to a wildlife hospital the following morning. The desert tort and the rainbow chicken in the pictures are my personal companions. 😊

marisabird @arizonakelly Also! As a bird lover, you might appreciate (I think it’s the sixth picture), a California scrub jay that was wild, yet overtime got to know me. Corvids are just so intelligent that I actually trained this one while still being wild, to do a flyby and take a peanut from my mouth! He lived somewhere outside my house in the trees, and we were friends for a few years and then I no longer saw him and his mate come around.

marisabird @arizonakelly that is actually a juvenile male turkey! My friends have a ranch nearby and they got this turkey, thinking it was a female and turned out to be a beautiful male.
