Hi Mary, I am not sure if the bank plays music, it may need a new battery, im not sure how to even change it or what kind it takes, the top coin slot is the mechanical device, and it just sets in the top of it. Do you still want it? I apologize, my sister gave me the item to sell for her, its in perfect condition except i dont know if it plays music
