Hi! I'm Michele. I raise alpacas on a small farm in Colorado. Many of my listings are alpaca products imported and handmade in Peru. I have yarn, roving and batting made from fiber from my own animals. I dye the yarn and sell it at select shows or on line. Check out my Facebook page at alpacasofsanssouci for more pictures. @brising You have a great closet and your handmade jewelry is beautiful! You need to increase your followers as well as sharing. I’m no expert. I make very few sales but I know I have to add items to my closet. A good way to gain followers is to play follow games. Find closets with a large number of followers and get their blues. There are a lot of poshers that give advice on increasing sales and followers. I’ll try to find one for you that I might have saved. Hope that helps!

Then, my friend suggested I get some clothing... which is kind of addicting!! I have been playing the sharing games, with dismal likes, and no sales. @brising I’m lucky to make a sale a month. I am on about 3 hours a day. I think doing parties and share events are big and also Posh events cuz then everyone, not just followers see your listings. I’m only on early morning so I miss all those. I did a couple a while back and gained a lot of followers. There are tips on the internet if you google Posh tips.

@artsie_1 The clothing is imported from Peru. The yarn I have made at a mill. I knit some, but haven’t graduated past scarves and easy shawls yet. My thing is dyeing the yarn. I have mostly white animals so dyeing is fun. I can get all kinds of colors and combinations.

@anewlifewithyou I’m right across from Geneva Glen. We sneak over there to hike and ride. They clear cur a large portion of the mountain. Terrible.! Destroyed tons of wildlife habitat. They put in a couple of roads to the top. Great for riding and hiking but I miss the forest that was there.

@anewlifewithyou I’ll have to go take a walk and see if I can find it. I live on Taos which is left at post office then first right. I think there are some old home to the left off Santa Clara on Hiawatha. I haven’t been up there in a while since I stopped running. I know there were some cool old homes up there. Lots of changes though. Property is expensive up here now.

@anewlifewithyou That’s terrible! I use linseed oil and turpentine inside and stain outside. I wonder about my mixture now. I’ll have to check if it’s flammable. I can imagine that creosote burning for hours and not going out. What a shame! And in winter too. As long as everyone got out. Were they able to save anything?

@anewlifewithyou That’s so sad. I’m glad your grandfather and uncles mother in law made it out. It must have spread quickly. I’m going to check on flammability. I have a 105 year old cabin. I don’t know what the seller put on the exterior logs, lacquer, I think. I’m going to have it stained in the Spring and they will grind all the old stuff off. The interior is where I used the turpentine and linseed oil. My dad swore by it.

There are some really good groups though and read the Poshmark manual, which I haven’t done, LOL! I need to do that. I’m on here every morning for several hours and nothing. @wiccaone21 There are actually 2 cats. They look similar but totally different personalities. The alpacas are fun. Have a show in 2 weeks and boy, are they dirty. Time for clean up but not today. Had 8 inches of snow. Ugh 😬

@wiccaone21 Alpaca fiber is different than sheep’s wool. It doesn’t have lanolin in it and it is much finer and softer. People allergic to sheep’s wool are usually not to alpaca. I’m not as knowledgeable about goats. I believe it’s called fiber also. It makes beautiful yarn. Still not as soft or fine as alpaca.
My cats are my family. I have 2 more, not featured. A tuxedo gray that’s a biter and a solid gray that has a congenital eye deformity and can’t see well. He still catches rodents though.

Hi there! Every time I share your Alpaca items I’m sad they don’t make sense for me because I live in Hawaii! They look beautiful! I am going to be in San Francisco and Portland, OR for part of December, though, and I’m thinking I should get some of your casual socks. Only issue is that I am sensitive to wool. I can wear cashmere and some wool without it itching, but even some expensive wool and lower end cashmere can itch. How are the socks for people who are pretty sensitive to wool? Thanks!

@kareng977 That’s one of the beauties of alpaca, people allergic to wool can wear it. The socks are very nice quality. They have acrylic and spandex in them as well as alpaca to hold the shape.

@njgrl54 Thanks for your response! I’m actually not allergic to wool. I have what my doctor called high histamine content skin; it’s highly reactive without my needing to be allergic to something. Do you have any idea if people who put on a wool sweater and can’t get it off quickly enough (often even expensive ones) because of how much it itches do okay with the Paca socks?

I find most typical wool (but not all), mohair, and occasionally cashmere (I’m guessing It’s either not really 100% cashmere despite what the tags say or lower grade cashmeres) unbearably itchy. I can wear Smartwool socks, though. I have an Alpaca sweater I purchased in Peru that I find a bit itchy but not bad.

@kareng977 Your sweater was probably not fine grade alpaca. If it had “guard” hairs in it, thicker fibers, it could be those that cause the occasional itch. I have my fiber dehaired to reduce the itch factor if a lot of guard hair is present.

@njgrl54 Interesting. That could be the case. I bought it at a boutique in a really nice hotel, but you never know, it’s not super itchy like wool can be, but I am aware of it. Great to know that you have those hairs removed! If I still lived in San Francisco and not in Hawaii I would definitely buy a sweater!

@njgrl54 A be careful what you wish for cautionary tale! When we lived in San Francisco and the fog would give my husband Seasonal Affective Disorder, he used a special bulb in his desk lamp at work that mimics the sun’s light and helped a bit.

@njgrl54 🤣 Well, you can put the bulb in any lamp you near enough to look at on and off for a few minutes throughout the day. Maybe several lights? My husband says that the technology may have changed since he last spoke to his doctor. Needless to say, moving to Hawaii has taken care of the issue! ☀️🌴☀️

@njgrl54 I can, but I really don’t understand any of the PM games. I know that we supposedly need to refresh our follows in some manner, and that’s what some of the games are for, but beyond that I’m totally clueless. I’m only on PM to sell items from my and my family’s closets. I won’t ever go to thrift stores to find things to resell, etc. I just don’t have the time for that. Given the limited nature of my “business,” do you think it makes sense for me to participate in these games? Thanks!

@kareng977 I haven’t noticed an increase in sales however, I have noticed an increase in followers by a lot. Which translates to more exposure. I don’t know about the 1000 thing. I know someone to ask or maybe google it. I’ve heard when you’ve selected someone’s followers, only 1000 show up. I do that for when someone has over 300 k followers. Posh’s guide does not provide much info.

There are some alpaca ranches in the county I live in. When my daughter was learning to talk, she had trouble saying "alpaca." When we'd pass them she'd get excited and say "Look! Packies!"

@greenbaypackers Spring is trying. We have more snow forecasted for tonight. Typical. My shearing date is May 7. I’ve been buying up all the fleece vests I can find. If it’s like last year, we’ll get May snow and cold.

I check in but l am on vaca while l recoup from the virus. It really knocked the wind out of me and my cat got it too. As a doc I really don't have much time to share. I TRY, but get flooded. I use Poshmark mainly as a release and to show those on the mend how to use the map. The virus can be daunting. As for the yarn I was looking for about 1200, 1400 yards for a sweater. Hope this helps and thanks for all the shares! Cheryl💖

@bgrg99 Thank you, you are very kind. I really enjoy working with yarn, especially dyeing. I now have a spinning wheel as well and am learning to spin. It’s fun but tricky. My loom is buried in fleeces I have to prep from shearing in June. Lots of work to do. It’s a bummer there are no trade shows. And I’m skipping alpaca shows due to Covid.
