My husband and I became grandparents for the second time when our daughter-in-law gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. Yes, football season is already five games in and my Penn State is 5 and 0!!! The big game is Saturday…we play Iowa at 4pm AT Iowa. We only attend Penn State home games. So, an away game and a bye weekend and no where to go! Thank goodness! I’m exhausted!

Now everyone has returned home and believe it or not, we took down our tree…between grandchildren and dogs’s, we didn’t have much or a tree left! The name doesn’t sound familiar, although Penn State, Beaver Stadium and even the area where I live, are all big, spread out places! Maybe it will come to me some day! perripsu @klbrooks27 Hi, Karen! I am sincerely sorry to hear about your husband. He will be in my daily prayers. I am fortunate; I found a teeny tiny tumor the size of a baby pea in my right breast, almost in my rib cage. Didn’t like it, had a mammogram six months prior. It was stage one breast cancer but I did catch it early. But, unfortunately I had a high recurrence rate so docs recommended four rounds of chemo.

perripsu @klbrooks27 Not thrilled about the chemo even though I didn’t have the drug that causes vomiting, etc. First, my oncologist removed the tumor on 30September 2013. No problems with lymph nodes. After every chemo treatment, I ended up with major infections, high fevers and painful bone pain. Chemo messed up my bone marrow and the rest of me so badly, the third treatment almost killed me. It was a nightmare from hell.

perripsu @klbrooks27 My doctors finally agreed: No more chemo we are going to kill her over a stage one cancer? It was also determined that I am allergic to chemotherapy, so if cancer returns, chemo is not an option. I’m also allergic to Penicillin, Z-Pack, Sulfa drugs and one more antibiotic. I have remained cancer free since the removal of the tiny tumor on 30 September 2013. This week happens to be doctor and dentist week, plus a bone density test.

perripsu @klbrooks27 I have been cancer free for over eight years now, but a lot of damage was done on the way! To this day I still have “chemo brain!” No hurry on the top…unless Poshmark is hounding you to mail! You and your husband are in my prayers. I began my chemo the day after Christmas but spent New Year’s Day in the Penn State Hershey Cancer Center! So many people I know have or had this miserable, nasty disease. perripsu @deeann642 Hi, DeeAnn! So nice to hear from you. I think I have the bracelets set up as the more you buy the cheaper they get. I totally understand your “Mom situation.” My mom became very ill about a year ago. She has what’s called a “leaky valve” in her heart which is now quite severe. She also has slow-onset Parkinson’s (has had it for over 20 years), but she didn’t have any problems or major issues until recently.

perripsu @deeann642 Mom is developing Parkinson’s-related dementia. She was going into congestive heart failure two weeks ago, but I called an ambulance and they relieved her swelling/excess fluid. Unfortunately, it’s only a matter of time before her heart fails. We have hospice care helping her. This is so frustrating and difficult to watch. It’s hard to deal with, especially since my mom and I were very close.

perripsu @deeann642 Hi, Dee. I apologize for taking so long to write. Besides my stepdad’s illness, I have not been feeling well during these past few months…and getting worse. Last week I went to Emergency Department and doctors found a super-large infected kidney stone (7mm) plus a bunch of small stones. Monday morning I have laser surgery to break up the stone. Will keep you posted, my dear friend.

perripsu @deeann642 Hi, Dee! Always great to hear from you. Hope all’s well with you and family. I know it’s still a difficult time, so you are always in my prayers. Like you, I miss my mom every single day. I mentioned my emergency surgery on the 16th (plus admission into hospital for a few days?). A horrible week afterwards which ended into another surgery on Monday (26th). Evidently, the 7mm kidney stone was actually measured 9/10mm by one centimeter!

I’ve alternated between sleepless nights (like my brain/subconscious refused to shut down) and sleeping most of a day! I’m praying you’re getting some rest. As a Penn State alum, I collect quite a bit of PSU “stuff!” My family has always followed PSU, including my sons (they each attended different colleges). perripsu @deeann642 Hi, Dee…I’m okay after second surgery! I was presented with some interesting information at my post op visit. The stone was nearly one centimeter around and embedded into my kidney…almost two hours to completely laser the calcification apart! Doc commented: “Somewhat unusual amount of time to breakdown into dust. No wonder you had so much mid-back pain!New and much smaller stent in place.”

perripsu @deeann642 Hope your sleep habits are improving…right now I’m sleeping a lot in general, probably due to the anesthesia and other meds. Antibiotics can also increase fatigue. I’m at home now, although not sure if I can delay other responsibilities much longer. My stepdad is in stage three esophageal cancer. What a mess this year continues to be…SCREAMING!!!
