readeadams A heads up that it's considered poor form and even insulting to make "low ball" offers when prices are already really cheap. A request for 40% off the existing price is definitely a low-ball offer.

readrumitome @readeadams new to Posh but grew up going antiquing with my dad who taught me that it never hurts to ask for a lower price & that’s part of the fun & what counter- offers were about! I reviewed the etiquette & didn’t see anything about “lowball” offers. I did see to leave positive feedback, so i will let you know that i liked the shirt. I don’t think that posting this reprimand here was particularly supportive or helpful. But i will assume the best ☮️

readeadams @readrumitome Thank you for your response. There isn't anything in Poshmark rules about low-balling, but it's a very sensitive issue to long-time poshers. This is not the same business as an antique or secondhand store. Offers are encouraged, of course, and some people who are desperate to get rid of their items may agree to drastically lower bids.

readeadams @readrumitome Poshmark takes a hefty percentage, which also reduces the amount the seller receives, especially when you get into the more expensive items. 10 to 15 percent reduction is an acceptable offer. 20 to 50 percent is mostly not. There's always the exception, of course, but overall it's better to err on the side of the lower rate.

readeadams @readrumitome I've seen poshers get really angry about this issue. As you are a newbie to Poshmark, I wanted to give you the heads up before you run into difficulties. Not meant as a reprimand as much as information to become a successful bidder. One way to go for lower prices is to like an item and then wait. Often a seller will send you a lower price offer, to which you may agree or not. But just by waiting, you may find the price continues to go down.
