The intelligence, personalities, and beauty that comes from these amazing creatures never ceases to amaze me. I lost one of my beloved elderly babies last year. I am still torn up over loosing her. I absolutely adore my babies I have a 20 year old African Grey Congo (Chauncey) and Cockatiel (Riley) I’ve had them both since they were babies.

This year I rescued the last guy that will be joining our flock a Timneh African Grey (Taz) They work me everyday from breakfast to bed but I couldn’t imagine life without them. I live love birds! 🥰

sugarcookie86 At least Riley is on a good home. That's what is most important especially for birds. You should check out, birds of paradise on bradenton florida and see some of their stories of birds. They are a rescue. If you do, check out Blue's story, it's a good one.

sugarcookie86 Oh yeah Ozzie has toys in every room in the house and there is a trail of toys from one end to the other. It looks like I have 10 birds!!! I just did a lay away for him at Bonka Toys for christmas and was happy to pay the $170. for his Christmas. He loves the movie Rio, talks and sings along with it plus dances away!!!

lilbirdietoldme @sugarcookie86 Yes mam you are a special bird mommy. So many people think I’m insane keeping birds and treating them like my babies. They have absolutely no idea the intelligence and personality they have. They have no idea African Greys have been scientifically proven to be cognitive thinkers. Cats and Dogs are wonderful companions, but Greys are amazing lifetime companions.

sugarcookie86 Hey you're a great bird mom too, taking rescued birds and taking care of their every need. I thank you for the compliment! Greatly appreciated! People don't get what birds can do, it's amazing what they can do. Ozzie has a vocab of around 750 words and phrases. Plus all the tricks he can do. I have pics of him on my page. Birds are great companions and they feel what you are going through. So it's just plain ignorance for what people don't know of the beauty of birds.

lilbirdietoldme @sugarcookie86 I see your pretty baby! My Greys both have a huge vocabulary. The Conures say several words. You are right people definitely have a lack of knowledge and understanding. Of course parrots are not for everyone they are have a very long lifespan, very expensive to maintain, they all have different personalities, and don’t always do as expected. And sooo many people do not research.

sugarcookie86 I agree with you, research is what my son did for over 2 years before he got Ozzie. He did the hard part after he came home with feeding every 2 hours and all that extra baby care, then almost 5 months in to it I got Ozzie. He asked if I could take him for 2 weeks, well that was Aug of 2013! Lol birds are a life time commitment, so not for everyone. Expensive yes! I get him volkman food and higgins, he had 2 bowls in his cage he gets one of each then water too.

sugarcookie86 I give him volkman and higgins one in each bowl then a bowl with nuts, laber treats, dried fruits, pasta, etc plus fresh fruit & veggies. I have 2 great places I get his food from and extra bags go in the fridge, the open bags go in the freezer. Clean cage every night and fresh water in bowls in the other rooms. Pooped out! Lol

sugarcookie86 You know I have a quick trick to save time when cleaning out bird cages.... I use puppy training pads and it works great. Pull them up then lay down new ones. It's clean and easy 😉

lilbirdietoldme @candace052979 I have kept in touch with several people for about as long as I have been on PM and never ran into a limit. Maybe because we touch base in bundles. The sale conversations are a new addition. At the bottom of your screen (on a cell phone) there is a search option (magnifying glass) click that. Then scroll down until you see parties. Scroll across and you will see the upcoming Pet Party. I will see if I can send an invitation as well.

lilbirdietoldme @sugarcookie86 Hello! So good to hear from you! I have thought about you so many times. All is well here with the exception of Chauncey. 😔 He had a seizure Saturday then again on Sunday. Unfortunately, none of the emergency vets have an avian vet on staff, so we called our vet and sweated it out until Monday morning at 7:30 so he could go see a doctor that knows birds. X-rays are good, heartbeat is good, blood work is still out.

lilbirdietoldme @sugarcookie86 Seems like it’s taking the lab forever to get it back even though the doctor put a rush on it. Vet is trying to determine why this is happening. Not much sleep since last Friday because I have a camera on him and watching him like a hawk. Dr put him on some preventative meds while we wait. Needless to say it’s been a crazy crazy weekend and week. I know you’ve had more than your fair share of crazy weeks. It is good to hear from you. I’m always wishing you well in my thoughts.

sugarcookie86 @lilbirdietoldme I'm so sorry to hear that news about Chauncey. I hope they can get it under control for all concerned especially him. Prayers to you!! I get it, when Ozzie got hurt I freaked and had to wait a whole day to take him to the vet. That killed me!!! Ugh...Now it's just regular trims and his annual is next month. Crazy times are still around, but not as bad, but we'll see what my dad brings to the table. He's got onset dementia, so this will be interesting.

sugarcookie86 @lilbirdietoldme Plus he's going to have to move in with me. I'm starting a job soon where I am working from home. That'll help keep an eye on him and I'll be making money finally! If I blow my disability so be it, can't live on SSDI. All I do is pay bills, do for Ozzie and maybe a very little something for me. What I wouldn't give to just get or do something just for me!! Glad to hear things are going well for the most part. Big hug and prayers to you!
