Hello! Huge vintage lover. And color, my personal closet is an explosion of color. Who am I? And why do I do this? And does anyone read these? For over 20 years I have hosted a clothing swap for my friends. It began in 2000 when I noticed there were a lot of teenage girls in my congregation. I remember how much I hated receiving hand-me-downs because it wasn't stuff I liked or it didn't really fit me. I thought why not collect all the hand-me-downs and have every girl come over and pick out the items they would like to wear. We piled everything on my dining room table and let them dig in. It was a huge hit! The girls loved having options. Then I noticed the moms were looking through the pile and finding stuff for themselves, so we expanded it to include all the ladies, every size, every style. Eventually it was being attended by over 100 friends. I needed to rent facilities to hold everything because we received so many donations. In order to fund these events I took to selling clothing that was left from the swaps. In the process I am able to give free wardrobes to many friends in my area. Then I offer over half of what is left to the community on a free giving website. And I sell the rest to keep this little project of mine going. It has been a labor of love and has allowed me to meet so many people in the process. I encourage anyone that can to try this in their own area.
