Hi! I'm Tanya. Thanks for stopping by! I mainly sell vintage Dooney and Bourke purses and a few Coaches as well. I have a huge collection, too many for one girl. acquittdapparel I went ahead and deleted the listing because I do not sell anything fake 😉 if you wouldn't mind giving me some tips that would be great. I've been going through my moms collection. All of her Louis and everything else more expensive was 100% authentic, which I know how to authenticate. Maybe this was a gift from my grandma. She's notorious for falling for fakes lol (gave me a fake coach last year she got from her nail lady.)

schoolofrock11 @alexanfuso I don't remember your bag exactly. I collect vintage dooney and Bourke bags/wallets, the all weather leather ones. Basically what you don't want to see: permanently riveted on handles, real ones are removable by a button rivet, same with most cross body straps. Leather flaps won't be stiff or rigid.

schoolofrock11 Many use paperboard or foam and glue on embossed plastic on one side and the "suede " on the other. If it's a wallet, the there always with be a heat stamp that says dooney and Bourke and depending on if it was made before or after they outsourced labor, some will say made in the usa, of after outsourcing it will not say where

I really should go with my gut on these things, when I bought it and asked about the lack of the Dooney & Bourke tag was told it had been re-lined. schoolofrock11 @firefox13az there are purses that we call pre tag bags which do not have the famous red white and blue registration tags. The tags are the end all for authentication. I have several authentic pre tag bags that are very authentic that I would have missed out on. Better than than tags, learn the dB traits. Such as most vintage ones were not lined. The ones that are it's almost always British tan leather and a high quality vinyl.

schoolofrock11 @hrwood22 you're welcome. I find most people simply don't know. One thing that I really like about the vintage Dooneys is the fact most styles shared specific traits, such as solid brass harware, button rivets, allowing handles and straps to be removed. Most are receptive to my message, some are not. Those that are not, likely already knew it was not authentic.

schoolofrock11 @marinedaughter I collect vintage Dooney All-weather leather. Yes, it is often wrongly assumed that counterfeits of vintage designer items don't exist. All vintage AWL was made in the USA, up until the early 2000's. Today, DB is made in the US, China, Italy, Costa Rica and Mexico. My guess is yours was made in China or Korea, common places for the vintage counterfeits to be made.

schoolofrock11 At first glance, the bag was convincing enough that I didn't immediately think that's a fake. Reason I asked you for the the tag info and pocket pictures; I wanted to see if you were forthcoming with the information. I concluded that you didn't know this was counterfeit. A suggestion, leave the bag up in your closet, but not for sale. Mark it as a counterfeit, for others to learn from.

If I were you, I would consider contacting the seller and telling them, no matter where it was purchased. If online, I would contact the customer service and let them know, no matter how long ago.

Looking at the pic, it was cheap embossed plastic. However, it did appear that her Boston Bag was real, but don't take my word, because like I said, I don't know the Gucci traits as well. Not sure about the other Guccis. Blocking someone here only means I can't comment/buy their items. If you purchased one of the Guccis, I would take it to someone and have it authenticated. Good luck.

Then you have the scammers who are the ones who will report those making those comments. I get pm probably has a lot of reports to sort through, but I guess I don't understand why they can issue me a warning when I am trying to help them keep this a safe market place. Oh and wallets the thing to look for is the heat stamp on the interior. No heat stamp=fake

She has until tomorrow at 7 am to rate me then I can ask Mc to release my funds. I am nervous about it because if she claims she didn't receive it I might be out that money. At least if a seller here claims they didn't receive something, I still get my money here.

schoolofrock11 Did a quick look at your bags the British tan one is in fair shape due to scuffing on the bottom leather. Get some Fiebings 4 in one leather conditioner, that will help minimize scuffs on leather. I buy mine at Farm and Fleet, they have a tack section there. Don't know if ff is anywhere else other than wisconsin. Any place that handles tack will have it. Don't over condition though, it will darken the leather too much. And only sparingly on pebbled leather

schoolofrock11 @jenlaura yes so long as it's in good shape.. no holes etc. Invest in some home good leather cleaner and conditioner. I like Fiebings, which yoh should be able to get anywhere that handles tack equipment. I buy mine at a store called Farm and Fleet, however I think they are only in Wisconsin... but not sure . They have a sister store called Fleet farm too.. same family. But they have online ordering too.

I get my leather dyes from them. Other options are Bick leather products and apple. I've used bick, liked the conditioner but prefer traditional saddle soap. Apple, I've heard good things about, but have not used

schoolofrock11 also as a selling point, invest a little time. The vintage ones, have the leather straps. Look at the edges, and any edges of the stiff leather exposed, The edges are supposed to be a dark brown. From age and usage, it's often worn off. I use Fiebings edge coat in brown on the edges of the strap and anywhere the is smooth leather with an exposed edge. Let dry. Do another coat,if you want, dr, apply a coat of Fiebing's resolene to waterproof. It's amazing the difference

schoolofrock11 The only braided anything you will see on a vintage dooney is on the loden or an outback. The closure loops that go around the toggles. But dB never used braided trim. The padded strap was too thin and the Teton collection, which that was a sorry attempt to imitate never had a bag that looked like that, in fact dB never made a style like that, ever.

I can authenticate Dooney and Bourke Vintage, but getting to know their newer bags too. I can authenticate Coach as well. Learning the traits of LV. schoolofrock11 @concierge lol when someone calls me Tan-ya, it's a knee jerk reaction to correct them. As a kid I never met another Tanya until 6th grade and we were in the same class. But she pronounced hers Tan-ya . Our poor teacher was forever calling us by the wrong pronouciation and we were forever correcting her

I wad trying to SUGGEST saying it wasn't the original strap, rather than saying the strap wasn't authentic. People not familiar with vintage db may think it's not real and overlook a great bag. There is a service if you sell your item for over $500, when you ship it, it first is shipped somewhere to authenticate, assuming it's real, it is shipped to the buyer. The length of time depends on a few things. Condition, is it a popular style, rare color ?

schoolofrock11 If a buyer wants to purchase more than one of your bags, bundling makes perfect sense. This way they only pay one shipping fee. Though if it's over 5 pounds then shipping is going to be more. I do not offer an automatic discount if people bundle. They still try and talk you down even more. So if they want to bundle they can and then they make an offer.

At the time everything I had researched pointed really, I have seen other fakes, but this one wasn't glaringly obvious to me, like the other. They went as far as putting a serial number on the tag!! schoolofrock11 @chloez_closet oh no hun, I meant it wasn't vintage, meaning it only wasn't old enough. Vintage generally speaking is an item at least 20 to 25 years old. For the db bags i look if they are made in the USA. If made after they started the tag system (1988ish) the tag will say Made in the USA. Your bag was very authentic, just newer is all, made after they outsourced labor overseas.

chloez_closet @tanya1969 oh, ok.. lol. No worries, but I did go look into it some more and what I was looking at stated that the hardware should be brass, no silver, and mine does have silver, I don't know if that is vintage only or modern as well. Do you have any knowledge on that?

schoolofrock11 The vintage All weather Leather line, all the hardware is solid brass.There are two exceptions to that rule of which I am aware. The early carpet bag feet some were silver "button" feet, which in most cases means AWL bag is counterfeit. But this was only true of the early pretag bags. There is also a line that came out in 1996 which is called the red tag line, which featured nickle plated brass.
