tiffanylve @ali101love thanks so much! So far, its been fun navigating the site and finding users. Asian Studies is basically learning about all of Asia, understanding the background of the people and what makes their culture so unique. It first caught my interest as I started watching Asian dramas, particularly Korean ones, and wanted to learn more about the people and language.

tiffanylve @ali101love So while I'm learning about all of Asia its mainly concentrated on the Korean people and language which has been challenging but fun! That is such a cool major, I once thought about majoring in Anthropology as well. Any particular cultures?

behindthecloth Very cool! Sounds like a really interesting study. Haha, i've heard K-Dramas are excellent!...haven't watched one yet..mostly because i'm not ready to get addicted and watch hours melt away that ought to be used for other things.

behindthecloth Asian cultures are intriguing to me as well. China for the longest...the language fascinates me most of all. Also Japan, India (though i have more concern for the immense poverty and poor treatment there than appreciation of the culture...though, i do see a lot of beauty in it as well), recently Thailand because of stories told by a couple missionary friends, and Korea particularly thanks to a Korean foreign exchange student befriended a few years back.

behindthecloth I also love learning about European cultures...especially those that are more progressive (it's interesting seeing how their lives differ from what's considered normal in the large majority of Americans...whether i agree or not..it's cool to see versions of freedom put to the test) and also those with deep, dramatic histories, like Greece, Italy, France, Germany, Spain.. Israel is particularly interesting too..as well as many other Middle Eastern countries.

behindthecloth And "primitive" tribal communities...again, because of the compare and contrast aspect...breaks opinions one could have about what's "civilized", and perhaps what makes life worth living. All the same, i like learning about the similarities and differences between people and seeing how it can be applied to love each other better and see the world with more beauty. --sorry i got a bit excited.

tiffanylve @ali101love I love that we have a lot of similar interest in foreign cultures outside of our own. Growing up I loved reading through geography books and pinpointing where I wanted to visit based just on the little facts they gave. Since I first watched The King & I, Thailand has been my #1 place in Asia to visit besides Korea.
