christydog34 @biju0327 thanks so mush I check that makers but sone I do t see but if it’s stone different stones or resins that’s where I get lost I do use google camera and it helps as well, when I get a chance I’ll be shopping in your closet 😊🎀🌸🌻

biju0327 @christydog34 Yes, stones are tricky. However, 1st thing - do a touch test. Cold or warm? Warm indicates some plastic/resin. Keep in mind that amber is a natural resin. Cold could indicate stone or glass. Stone is cold for a long time; glass is 1st cold but it warms up. However, you can always ask me. I’ll be happy to answer if I can. 😊

christydog34 I know pearl are cold to the touch and stones are but like you said some stay cold and resins stay room temperature and I’m realizing what Lucite and Bakelite is and I think I have a few pieces.🌻🎀😊

biju0327 @christydog34 yes, natural pearls are a bit cold. Do determine the origin of a scratch test. Rub two of them to each other. If you feel they are gritty, than you have natural pearls. If not, depending on the weight, they could be plastic or glass.

biju0327 @christydog34 Bakelite & lucite are two different plastics. There are more: celluloid, casein. 1st weight - Bakelite& lucite are heavy; the other ones are lightweight. 2nd. Do a hot water test. Put the piece under running hot water for about 30-60 sec., than smell. Bakelite smells like formaldehyde, remember the smell of the chemistry lab. It could smell like vinegar too. Lucite doesn’t have any.

biju0327 @christydog34 celluloid smells like old moth balls & casein smells like rotten milk. There are another test for confirming bakelite- simichrome paste or baking soda test. Look online how to do that. 😊
