smiththrift @rockinrobin0802 I forgot to mention to you, when photographing black put a purse, shoes, anything with color in the photo-I use silk or real flowers-makes a world of difference. Why? I don’t know, it just works.

shannon_stroud @smiththrift what?? These came from a wholesale show where a “certified” (I guess that’s the word) BJ representative was selling them. How would they be allowed to do that? I’ll call the manufacturer to double check. Thanks for the heads up.

shannon_stroud @smiththrift I’m waiting to hear back directly from a supervisor, but the service rep briefly explained what happened. Something about when Steve Madden bought out Betsey Johnson, and the original designs from before the buy out versus designs from after the buy out...I didn’t really follow but I’ll get to the bottom of it.

smiththrift @shannon_stroud I know if you look on eb, there are tons of these being sold for .99 , check it out and see for yourself. The hang tag doesn’t look legitimate either. All the genuine pieces I’ve had have black inside the engraving.

The way I understand it as of now, and this is coming from the merchant at the market and the service rep is that when BJ filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and was bought out by Steve Madden, the designs and styles started changing. The ones considered “authentic” are exclusive BJ designs. The ones being widely sold now are still BJ...

shannon_stroud @smiththrift ...but not exclusive or original BJ. The authentic ones are pre-bankruptcy and buy out. The ones after are still a design of, but from a combination of the merger. That’s why there’s a slight difference and why the warehouses selling them for so cheap are able to list the name, because the name is still part of the corporation, but not the sole designer.

shannon_stroud @smiththrift No, it’s fine. It’s just, even though it’s only on this thread, it’s a comment and it has merit. So I wanted to address it because otherwise, I would go crazy not knowing. The merchant my family bought from, we blindly trusted. So I would feel terrible if I didn’t at least check. Plus, I never want to sell something under false pretenses.
