According to the EPA, in 2018, 17 million tons of textile waste were generated, with 11.3 million tons (66%) landfilled, 3.2 million tons (19%) combusted with energy recovery, and only 2.5 million tons (15%) recycled. This aligns with sources estimating that 85% of textiles (including clothing, sheets, and towels) are either landfilled or incinerated, with landfill being the dominant disposal method Platforms like Poshmark contribute to the reuse market, which diverts some textiles from landfills.
