I'm a writer and a transplant to NYC from the Philippines. I enjoy dressing up and feeling pretty without breaking the bank. I sell from a smoke-free and pet-free home. I feel very strongly about reducing waste so I don't do fancy packaging. I make sure that your item gets to you in the condition that you bought it for. When possible, I will also reuse boxes or bags that I've gotten from my online purchases. I'm open to negotiations so don't hesitate to reach out if you see anything you like.

just_dandy Thank you! I am not a fan of Colorado Springs. The final doctor I saw before leaving was the only doctor to actually listen to me. I was like "Where have you been the last 8 years!??". He even put me on special program where I can't go back. My question about that area is -why do they name everything after water?- because there is none! Too dry! Don't believe the travel brochures-they lie!!!

pakainin @eshoppe I know what you mean! That's why I like being in Brooklyn. It's not as busy or expensive as Manhattan but it's close enough for meeting friends or going to whatever events. We went for a drive to Philly a few weeks back. We went to Reading Terminal Market and checked out the Chinatown. It's a charming place!

pakainin @eshoppe It always is a struggle. Took me six years, from conception of the idea to the final revision. I just stuck with it no matter what because I knew I would hate myself if I abandon it. Yeah, I think it's my greatest achievement thus far. I've been cooking for only about a year. It was surprisingly not as hard as I feared it would be. I'm still feeling my way around the kitchen but I think I'm doing fairly ok. Haha! My husband hasn't complained.

eshoppe OMG! You don't have any idea how many times I tried to start writing just to eventually abandon them completely. That's why I commend you for being able to complete yours. It sometimes feels like I'd rather solve a mathematical problem than to continue writing. LOL.

lvjeanqueen @pakainin No this the best city in the world, for me.. the best clubs, restaurants, no last call. I moved here the recession from OC, CA.. I was making 6 figures for 10 years in finance, then it got so bad, I was barely feeding myself. 4 hour drive, my mom was and still is a blackjack deaker here. The rest is history, always something to do here, I cant imagine living anyehere else .

pakainin @daisyd0102 Hi Daisy! I saw you've sold some tall boots. I haven't listed mine yet because I'm worried about the shipping. When you sold yours, do your tall boots require extra shipping charges? Thanks!

daisyd0102 Hi, the boots that I sold were fairly light weight. Depending on how heavy your boots are, will determine the shipping. Anything below 5 lbs will not cost you anything. If they weigh more than the 5 lbs then you will need to upgrade the shipping label. I think most boots will be less than 5 lbs though. I would suggest you weigh them. I don't have a postal scale so what I would do is weigh myself and then weigh myself with the boots. Subtract the weight with boots -weight without and the difference will be what the boots weigh. I hope I didn't confuse you and that it helps 😊

daisyd0102 Yes. I use the free boxes from usps. You can order then online and get them shipped to your house for free or in the post office. Just make sure they are priority mail only. That it does not have flate rate on it or regional and express mail. Only priority mail is allowed or brown boxes. I usually use their Priority mail shoe box for shoes if they fit. There isn't any size restrictions that I know of, just the weight. :)

I hear you on the winters here - they are cold and last way too long. 2-3 months of winter is fine and fun, but 4-6 months of temps under 50's just nuts! thestarrynight Are there any Filipino restaurants in the city that you like? For Shakespeare tickets, I'd recommend signing up for the online lottery (you might have to do so many times before scoring tickets, but it's much easier than waiting 3-5+ hours in line which I've also done).

thestarrynight If you like to be on the water, Fire Island, Long Beach and other parts of Long Island are nice. There's also free kayaking on the Hudson! Most museums and gardens have free admission days or are pay-what-you-want, including the Met which has great exhibits right now, the Frick, MOMA, Guggenheim, etc. FIT's fashion exhibits are always free and usually very well-curated and easy to do.

thestarrynight Summer Streets, a city-long block party, is still going this weekend. Vendors offer free 1-hr bike rentals, snacks, even a small dog run. It's fun to bike all the way up and down Park Ave!

pakainin @thestarrynight We would usually go to Noodle Village in the city for Chinese food. In Flushing, we've been to White Bear and checked out the food courts in malls. One was New World Mall but I can't remember what the other one was called. Never been to Xi'an Famous Foods but I seem to hear/see that a lot--Oh I just looked it up. It's a chain, that's why. For some reason, the hubby doesn't like going to chain restos. I don't mind checking it out one of these days though.

The owner's son started expanding into new locations a few years ago (I think after a race review from Anthony Bourdain). It's very good if you like spicy/noodles/lamb.

bagswithtags Yes, it's in Westchester, on Central Ave in Scarsdale. It's called Go Greenly of Central Ave (it's mostly a frozen yogurt shop, and there are other Go Greenly shops but we are the only Filipino one 😉). There used to be a Westchester FilAm Society, and I know the Bronx has a big one (they just held their annual Christmas dance haha)... Maybe Brooklyn or Queens has one too?

It's called "In My Mother's House" and currently, seven libraries in the US carry it. pakainin @nyc_apple Thanks! Been in NYC for 2.5 years, and on PM for 2 years. I recently got the email that I'm a suggested user but I don't feel the difference yet. No deluge of followers or anything like that. Writing a novel is a long and painful process. You just have to keep going at it. You already have a few chapters. That's a lot more than what most people have. It took me six self-doubting years to write mine. :)

And that's what's so great about writing. You get to revise until you're satisfied with it enough to let other people read it.

pinayginger Pinakbet is pretty easy, you just have to have the right veggies and bagoong also bagnet (crisp pork) i always am looking for a pinapaitan when ever i get into filipino cuisine , but there is none here..

pakainin @pinayginger About an hour away yung Asian stores that sell Pinoy stuff. Ang mga malapit samin, puro Chinese products lang. Yeah, I do miss bagoong though so I might get one next time we go. Not sure lang kung gaano kalala ang amoy if I try to cook it.

pakainin @miamare Thank you for stopping by! I'm so sorry for such a delayed response. Yeah, I did (still kinda doing) corporate writing. It's rare to find someone who can make a living out of literary writing alone. I had always just did my creative writing on the side and always had a full time day job, which somehow involved writing too. For now, the full time job is my one-year-old so writing is still on the side.
