This stunning modernist silver necklace features a bold yet tasteful rectangular chain, along with three oval cabochons of the clearest blue lapis lazuli I’ve seen!
This choker-style necklace was made by Alicia de la Paz (Alicia Cuevas de Ortiz). Born in Taxco, the crib of Mexico's silver artistry, de la Paz initially pursued a career in law, and also studied art and poetry – "I actually won first and second places in various national and state art contests which led me to pursue my artistic side. I was thrust into the realm of jewelry-making and soon enough the Mexican government awarded us the prestigious national quality distinction award."
De la Paz suffered a tragic automobile accident in the 1990s, which left her partially paralyzed. Over time, she recovered and continued working. Her early pieces were rendered in 950 silver, while her more contemporary items are made of 925 sterling silver.
At 62g, it feels substantial, but comfortable to wear. Features a standard box clasp that operates perfectly.
Measures 18” from tip to tip. In excellent vintage condition.
