Art deco revival brooch of mother-of-pearl/abalone. It is edged with nylon fabric in beautifully muted rainbow colors of pale green, blue green, and maroon. Each color subtly reflects or blends with the colors in the highly reflective abalone shell. It has a frame-like metal design over the top and the abalone is in three different levels. It is edged in a gold-tone metal as is the backing. It can be worn either horizontally or vertically.
It was made by hand in Germany and is signed Langani in script on the back.
This brooch measures 2 7/8” wide, 2” high, and just under ¼” thick. It is in good vintage condition, some scratching on back of brooch, with a slight but barely noticeable scratch on the abalone.
FYI: Anni Schaad founded Langani and likely created this brooch in the 1970s. She passed away in 1988. Langani worked for the Parisian couturier Louis Feraud during the 1960s and into the 1970s. The fabric in the piece shown and described above is one of the tell-tale signs of Schaad’s work, as many of her pieces combined fabric, string, and beads.
