The Long Journey to My Style

It took this GenXer a long time to embrace her feminine style. I didn't wear makeup for most of my life & lived in band t-shirts & jeans in various shades of black. But then Marie Kondo came along & asked me to go through my wardrobe to see what sparked joy & I had a realization. The things that sparked joy were ones that made me feel more feminine, the pretty dresses I only wore on special occasions, the glittery makeup, the sparkly adornments. I kept my love of fashion in the closet! Part of it was a lack of love & acceptance of my body. I did some long, hard work on radical acceptance of the body, learning how to love it in the present moment, not conditioned upon some imagined future where I lost X lbs & looked how I thought I should look. It's still a work in progress but the journey has begun. 💪 So, I started to hit the thrift stores with a new eye for things that would light me up. I found myself suddenly attracted to bright colors and bold patterns. I tried different fits & figured out what styles complemented my features & what wasn't helping. I started playing with makeup & realized I would have a more productive day if I put on a pretty outfit & made up my face. But! Since I am 50+ with 2 kids I focus on fits that are comfortable, low maintenance & flexible in sizing because my weight can fluctuate.And since I hate nylons & tights, I opt for various thicknesses of stretch pants under my dresses so I can wear year-round. My footwear is always comfortable!
